This was my response to the WriteNow tweet challenging us to write a song in a new time signature. After choosing seven-eight time, I decided to base the loop in seventh chords, because why not? Forgive the hard-to-hear vocals. Recording on an ancient Tascam hand-held recorder while using a PA is not exactly in my wheelhouse.
Seventh Heaven
Ask me why I’m feeling so grand
My heart is full enough to beat the band
I feel so light I might just float away
Ask me why and I’ll likely say
I’m in Seventh Heaven
My amp is turned to ten, maybe eleven
I asked the girl of my dreams
To marry me and she said yessiree
When I asked her, her eyes sure popped
She started crying and I thought she’s never stop
I thought I’d made a big mistake
She didn’t love me, leaving me in the wake
She said, no, I do love you
I thought you’d never ask, you big baboon
I quickly lost that feeling of dread
She said, come kiss me you big knucklehead
I’m in Seventh Heaven
My amp is turned to ten, maybe eleven
I asked the girl of my dreams
To marry me and she said yessiree
I have a confession to make
She wanted marriage and I wanted to wait
A bad experience had laid me low
But I didn’t want to lose her to another beau
I put on my big boy pants
When she said yes, I had to do a little dance
The future looks bright when we look ahead
I am so glad I am her knucklehead

This is absolutely charming . It’s clever - well at least kudos for writing in secen- but above all it conveys that feet off the ground feeling of innocent exultation! Great stuff

So good! The time signature just makes this more charming. Beautiful story. Wonderful song!

This is so charming, my goodness, what fun! Really cool bit of work and creativity here. Impressed by your nimble navigation of your melody over the time signature.
