I do lyrical themes every year and this year’s theme is the previous year - same theme as last year…since we seem to be on repeat.
Last year I got DUMPED in the middle of FAWM! So for this year I tried to channel my inner Bon Iver and at least get a song out of it. Although the voice memo for the basic musical idea dates from 2013…years before she and I had even met. Go figure.
I just realized that this is the 100th song I've ever made through monthly challenges like this!
I still see her spin down stairs
Circle ‘round without a care
On a prayer that I might catch her
I used to catch her firing flares
Just to spark a new year’s glare
Of a woods alighting after
Til she stole away alone
Never minding that she’d thrown
A broken spanner into winter
I wish I could rewind our time
To unring the brittle chimes
That I shattered trying to win her
I always know that it’s coming
But I never know how it ends
How it ends
When it ends
But it happens in good time
Cycles turning on a dime
Felling seasons by the wayside
That long winter faded fast
Brighter days began to last
So reliable, the springtide

Good write. The sense of impending and irresistible disaster comes through clearly. I like the tiny shoot of hope poking its head up at the last.

Wow i'm jealous of your musical skills and recording!!! Lovely song, captures the emotion perfectly, really dig the music though. Super rad.
