My wife and I sat down to write another song tonight - she had the main melody already and began singing it, I added some chords underneath and it changed into another song. We both imagined something desolate, like some guy slogging across a bleak landscape, so it ended up in my head being a bit like Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road'.
I think this is mostly my wife's song although I suggested the odd lyric and did the chords.
Seeing as my wife and I are both teachers and it's been a horrific slog of a term perhaps there's also something subliminal buried in here too..
Every day, harder
Every mile, longer
Every night, colder
Every man, older
But I'm keeping on
Keeping on
Every touch, bolder
Every light, darker
But I'm keeping on..
People keep passing
People keep dealing
People keep digging
People keep stealing
But I'm keeping on, keeping
People keep asking
People keep lying
But I'm keeping on
Well you've walked for miles and seen the sights and your soul is tired...but you dont give up
Well you start to ache, and body breaks, and you're covered in dust, but you know you'll never stop
well the clouds they break, and the seas will part, and the earth will shake, but you dont give up..
Every day..

Good song about pushing through hard times. I like how the repetitious melody conveys that determination to put one foot in front of the other and just keep going. Good set of lyrics too. I enjoyed this song.

What a wonderful, trancelike sound -- the lyrics and music really pair well. I definitely hear Tom Waits in here, I see you list him as an influence. There is something to be said for simple, iterative lyrics, and I can really feel the slog through the repetition and the single-note centeredness. Listening, however, was NOT a slog. Great tune!
