Feb 2022 random collaboration acoustic-one-take
A wonderful lyric by Beto (@elesimo), sent to me as part of the Random Collaboration Challenge. It is a beautiful lyric, full of history and promise . Thank you Beto.
Six winds
In the forest, where the river’s small,
A lonely tribe, brave and proud,
Celebrates their newest member
Brought into the world naked and loud.
Mom asks the leader, old and wise,
The secrets for a life fulfilled,
So the baby can grow happy
Honest, loved, healthy, and strong willed.
"Pray to the winds", is the answer,
"For the six carry a blessing,
A lesson brought in each of them
A gift, a token, a message."
"For the north wind brings the harsh war
Keeping our people fierce and strong.
And the south wind carries winter
The cold that makes our lives so long."
"From the east blows the ocean wind
Keeping us quick, fleet, and nimble
The western wind opens the sky
Enriching our minds with symbols."
"The storm wind blows from everywhere
Unpredictable, erratic
Teaching us to accept our fate
Wise, calm, and also pragmatic."
"And the most important of all:
The wind that blows inside the soul
As for where it blows, right or wrong,
Holds secret to a life made whole."
"Pray to the winds", is the answer,
"For the six carry a blessing,
A lesson brought in each of them
A gift, a token, a message."
"The most important of them all:
The wind that blows inside the soul
As for where it blows, right or wrong,
Holds secret to a life made whole."

The minor key setting and the haunting melody really brings this lyric to life. It’s a really beautiful scene that has been set, rich with symbolism and power. Great collab! #tit4tat

This is so good. I love the story. All the winds are so interesting, especially the 6th one. Fabulous musical interpretation. I enjoyed that so much. Nice collab!
@burrsettles Feb 2022
wow, it's kinda hard to believe the lyrics and music here were written independently! i find it's tricky to write longer narrative songs like this, and the folksy structure, melody, and delivery works perfectly, i think. nice work both of you!
@berni1954 Feb 2022
This sounds like it has been around for centuries passing down from generation to generation via the oral tradition. THUMBS UP!
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
I really like your choice of chords, it's a great basis for everything you and elesimo put over top.
On a technical note, did you find yourself holding vocal notes longer and more often on this song than you normally do when singing your own lyrics?
@aeye Feb 2022
Excellent collab you two! Great set of lyrics, and a great interpretation of them.
@panch Feb 2022
Super storyteller lyrics that you've set to music perfectly.
@jtsteam Feb 2022
Love the folky sound, it's just right for this story.
@nadine Feb 2022
Random collabs are fun! Interesting story and it works well with these folks vibes.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Love the feeling of this and the flow of the melody. The lyric is really beautiful in the message of the winds that is delivered. Wonderful collaboration!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Great story of new life and then the struggle that follows, Nicely written and good delivery through that clean voice and strong Mando.
@sph Feb 2022
Wonderful collaboration - both the storytelling as the musical setting.
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
I love how this sounds like it was written 100 years ago! Great lyric, great performance, great collab.
@theicylakes Feb 2022
Amazing story lyrics with a great message! I could see the tribe like a movie in my mind as I listened to it - beautifully done!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Yeah, what they said....
Lovely singing and performance, and the lyrics are quite profound. Great collab!

Ooh, nice.... It has a wonderful bard feel, telling a story of old. My sister used to tease me that I loved minstrel music (speaking specifically of Jethro Tull at the time) but it is TRUE! I do love it and this was a joy to listen to as I listened to the story. Wonderful lyrics and it would be interesting to hear how they might have been heard in Beto's mind. Maybe it never had a specific melody/style in birth, but the way they came to life is wonderful. :)

Wow, @mandolinda, this is lovely! I love how you turned the lyrics into such a beautiful song!
And yes, @mikeskliar, you're right! For me, being from Brazil, it's the southern wind that brings the cold, and I was picturing a tribe in the Amazon when I wrote the lyrics!
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
This is really wonderful, both lyric and music. The lyric sounds like something that's hundreds of years old with that flinty hard-won wisdom, and the music and performance is a perfect setting for this, mandolin and all!
(one little silly point, was the lyric written with the southern hemisphere in mind? cause in the northern hemisphere the winter would blow from the north, not from the south, i think?)

What a fabulous story song. Great lyrics brought to life in such a lovely song. I've listened twice. I love it!
