Oh man, I think I've entered the phase of FAWM where you can't tell if your melodies are original anymore. This one was tough to write because I've had some trouble finding enough uninterrupted time to get into the flow this week.
But anyway, I was inspired by the recent social media activity of a record label founder I admire. He's known for being super positive but it looked like he was heading for a breakdown a few days ago. Hopefully he's OK. I tried to write a song from his perspective.
I don’t wanna be a hero
I don’t wanna be a saint
I just wanna make records
I just wanna make records
I don’t wanna hear your story
You gotta know I think it’s boring
I just wanna make records
I just wanna make records
Why’d you slide in to my DM’s?
This is my Richard Simmons moment
You followed me into my home and
I never asked for your emotions
This is my Richard Simmons moment
You don’t know my middle name
You don’t know my favorite song
You only know my records
You only know my records
I can’t be your moral compass
I don’t wanna be Jesus
I just wanna make records
I just wanna make records
I read the emails that you sent
Do you think I’m your therapist?
This is my Richard Simmons moment
You followed me into my home and
I can’t handle the emotions
This is my Richard Simmons moment
I don’t wanna be exemplary
I just wanna be a memory
(Whoa-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh)
That moment…
(Whoa-oh-oh)
That Richard Simmons moment…
(Whoa-oh-oh)
That moment…
(Whoa-oh-oh)
That Richard Simmons moment…
(fade out)

I love the vocals here, great energy and sound. I also feel like the more I write, the more I sound like something I already wrote...or, at least that's when I'm not sounding like someone else I like. :-) I love the line "I don't wanna be Jesus. I just wanna make records."

Fun song - tonnes of energy. I don't know who Richard Simmons is, I must admit, but I'm not sure it matters because who needs to understand the lyrics when you can just sing along "Whoa oh oh oh". My one criticism is that you faded out when I was singing along. That outro could have been at least another 20-30s :P

"I think I've entered the phase of FAWM where you can't tell if your melodies are original anymore" - I got there about ten years ago.
But being original is so unoriginal.
I enjoyed this track! Some nice chord changes, and there's a nice quality to your voice as well. Good stuff.
