Another beachy-ish EP one.
Inspired by Lorde’s ‘solar power’ album. She discussed getting inspiration from 2000s cheesy pop, like S club 7 and stuff. So I tried the same.
Is it heavy in your heart?
Do they keep you awake to stare at a ceiling of scars
Are you questioning why they’d want to tear you apart
Then leave it in the past
Don’t give them the satisfaction of a thoughtful interaction
Control your reactions when you can’t control theirs
It’s what we call your circle of influence
So leave it in the past
Relinquish it, it’s just a moment, a moment to forget
Cause holding on to every wrong, it will get you in the end
So let’s not pretend, It won’t get you in the end
You hold the power
Remember it now and
Let go of the past
Let it float away, let it run astray, watch it turn to ash
You hold the key, to let it be, a fragment of your past
Let it float away, let it run astray, watch it turn to ash
You are better now
Mmm don’t give them an inclination that they enter your equation
Manifest a haven, where you can’t hear them
Cause believing it’s true (uh-uh) will bring it all to you
And they’ll be nobody but just someone you knew (that’s true)
If you leave it in the past
Relinquish it, it’s just a moment, a moment to forget
Cause holding on to every wrong, it will get you in the end
So let’s not pretend, It won’t get you in the end
You hold the power
Remember it now and
Let go of the past
Let it float away, let it run astray, watch it turn to ash
You hold the key, to let it be, a fragment of your past
Let it float away, let it run astray, watch it turn to ash
You are better now
Yeah you’re at peace, you’re all alone, you let it fly, you watch it float
Theres’s bubbles in the sky
Bubbles in the sky
You are changing up the weather
You’re in control, you’re feeling better
There’s a lightness in your eyes
A Lightness in your eyes

It's crazy that after so many years, I can close my eyes and still see their faces--the ones who gave me such a hard time in school. Forgiveness doesn't mean reconciliation. This is why the last paragraph is so so lovely. The lines about bubbles in the sky--sing it with a smile! Look them in the eye for there is now a lightness in them! So inspiring!!! I love these.

Lots to love here. You had me at the first couplet, co-opting the trope of a glowstar littered ceiling and changing the location to inside the body, looking up at literal or figurative scarring. Just unbelievably efficient, it does so much.
Also, the chorus- love, the rhyme being 'now, and', giving the singer a lot of latitude as to how that's gonna be delivered and keeps it from seeming tidy-
and then it dives in to this list of rhymes only to finish with a non-rhyme. Again, tons of leeway for the vocalist to bend it to their performance and change it up from time to time. There's a lot of that in here- clearly written to be sung, and not so much that I can hear how it'll go, but that I can see the toolbox you provide to help the performer make it their own.

Good advice. A painful past can be a bad mental neighborhood. I was glad to see the happy ending.

As someone who went No Contact with nasty relatives, I can relate.

Great messaging. You’re really on a roll with writing lyrics this month!!!!

This is really cool lyrically. Will parts of it be spoken maybe ? It has the feel of semi rap in places.
