Feb 2022 singer-songwriter wurlitzer one-take
This one mostly came out of a skirmish
But I scrapped it and wrote something else in the hour
There is one minor swear word in it.. Which I don't normally use but my stubborn brain refuses not to
There is something in this chorus i hear that needs lots of extra vocal tracks with opposing lines
But for FAWM i'm a jammin' one record shot wonder so this is what you're getting...
Onwards!

Opposite Tragedy
Once I met a unicorn
It had such a pointy face
Impaled my best friend Billy
Then followed me with hate
I had to stop
when i ran out of breath
I cried “Mercy”
But all he saw was death
And those things you think are one way
Might be the opposite
Your mythic heroes
Might cause your last breath
Once I met a serpent
It sang the saddest song
Banished from its homeland
Only wanting to belong
But I locked my door so tightly
When it pleaded to come in
Terrified
of indoctrination
And those cautionary tales
Are likely full of shit
The ones we’re trained to fear
Might be the opposite
Oh Well – nothing’s the matter see
So Swell – nothings the matter see
Oh well....
Once I met a human
They were full of doubt
Harnessed their concerns
By deifying myself
And my naysayers were
Quickly washed away
By my faithful true
No opposition to complain
Oh Well, nothing’s the matter see....
So swell...
What the hell...
(yadda yadda).
....opposite tragedy

Oh I am so glad you wrote the bloodthirsty unicorn song after all! This is fantastic. The waltzy Oh Well parts are so delightfully catchy. What lovely words to have stuck in my head! I love how it escalates right from the first verse, and the image of a hateful unicorn following you around... bizarre and wonderful!

This is a really wonderful write and performance! I love that chorus, and have always thought a unicorn would be a pretty vicious animal. They didn't grow horns for no reason lol.
@tippyteapot Feb 2022
loved your answer to what can the matter be!!

ckever work of taking the piss out of morality fables

"Your mythic heroes / Might cause your last breath ... The ones we’re trained to fear / Might be the opposite" Ah, the fallout from misjudgments, the good and the bad both tragedies. This is _so good_, Cassandra.

Great song. Love the idea behind this. Love how you tell such a poetic story.
@mandolinda Feb 2022
What you hear is what you get, but what you feel is not quite yet, oh well, might be the opposite. When we see all.
@rangermike Feb 2022
Serpents and unicorns, we'll I guess you can misjudge unicorns and people too - I get the point though, painfully. Great song.
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
That Oh Well chorus is a great call-out to a familiar folk melody. Well done.

Too funny I was just thinking about writing one about a unicorn
You have such an incredible way with words and the way you put them together is amazing.
Awesome song Cassandra..
