This is partially based on me in my early 20's, when I was a waitress, and lived in a tiny apartment.
All Alone Again
© 2022 Cindy Prince
The dinner rush is over
Her feet are tired and sore
She mumbles to herself
Don't wanna do this no more
She takes off her stained apron
Turns off all the lights
She'd love to see the stars shine
But it's just heavy rain tonight
Chorus
Soaking wet she gets in her car
Drives a few blocks, it's not very far
If only she could wish upon a star
She might not be all alone again
If only she wasn't all alone again
Her shabby apartment is empty
Her heart and soul are too
No opportunities out there
The diner is all she can do
She hears the rain, gets in bed
Tosses and turns once again
She dreams about another life
And starlight instead of rain
Repeat chorus

I "see" a lot of images in this. You capture those alone feelings so well. Many can relate to this I think and wanting to "see the stars".

Great song. It creates a Great picture of how it must have felt. Awesome storytelling.

Excellent lyric Cindy! It conjures up vivid images of despondency but also retains an element of hope. Thanks for your warm comments btw...

Oh that's a really great snapshot of life. The rain as a metaphor for the dreariest of being unfulfilled, wishing for more, and not knowing how to get to something better. It's a place all of us have been, and it's just so tangible. Very good!
