Feb 2022 alt-rock indie 90s indiepop
SPOILER ALERT
this is a song about the TV show Yellowjackets, which I've recently become a bit obsessed with. If you are watching it and haven't finished, or want to watch it, you might not want to listen or read on. There are spoilers in the lyrics.
for anyone else: the show is about a 90s high school girls football (soccer) team that gets stranded in the wilderness after their plane to the national championship crashes. Jackie is the team captain, she's popular and pretty and generally gets her own way, until the crash.
I will now briefly explain the lyrics in google translated Korean - translate it out of Korean if you're interested to know what they're about, I don't think they quite make sense without having seen the show.
It is slightly annoying that my favourite song and lyrics that I've written so far this FAWM can only really be understood by watching a preposterous TV show, but c'est la vie
all line up and say a nice thing
i'm your captain
buzz buzz buzz we're going all the way
let me lead you
what's the problem? what'd i do?
we've been best friends since we're two
you know you can tell me what you're thinking
i'm always with you
it's a thing you just can't say?
all my teammates must need me
after all I'm Jackie, Jackie

feels so cold outside this house
i wish i was somewhere else
with hot chocolate and a phone and a TV
a bed, a mirror, magazines
all my teammates in my dreams
everything for Jackie, Jackie
so cold outside this house
i wish i was somewhere else
with hot chocolate and a phone and a TV
a bed, a mirror, magazines
all my teammates in my dreams
everything for Jackie, Jackie
(i love you Jackie)
(we all love you Jackie)

Oh dang! I don't think there's anything to not understand in these lyrics, personally, even without seeing the show it makes a lotta sense.
Also, brilliant pastiche of mid 90s high energy teen pop rock. It's got all the right things. Good tones, right chords, great groove, the button ending. Come ON NOW! Real fine work. Damn fine in fact
@ampersandman Feb 2022
Loving the guitar chords, infectious melody, perfect 90s indie rock vibe, just my thing.
@lowhum Feb 2022
Nice disharmonics there in the guitars to mix pretty with the sugarly slightly tuned vocals. A kiss me not screamer boy-girl staple.
@shortdan Feb 2022
It's catchy as hell this one! Loads of fun. Love the vocal treatment. Guitars sound great throughout. Good stuff :)
@conorg Feb 2022
Class! I really love this, great tune, total earworm, the sample works brilliantly, nice bouncy energy. And yes it takes me back to the 90s and makes me feel young and old at the same time. I've listened to this 4 times in a row and I'm going back for another spin! Buzz buzz buzz.

+1 on you telling us your vocal FX secrets! This is really great, there's some real angular chords in here, and something just as simple of you *really* hammering at those strings gives them a real detuned feel to them is very cool. Very infectious as always!

Upbeat tune, great guitar sound and intriguing vocals ... very catchy!
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
I love the vocals here so much, they absolutely soar the melody is *chefs kiss*, it's infectious! While I don't know yellow jacket, I do think the lyrics flow and match the melody amazingly well which I think is as equally important as subject matter. Great stuff!

This is so great. Are those your vocals super effected? They sound so cool, would love to know what plug-ins you’re using. This song is ridiculously catchy, so much cool stuff going on. Feel like I’ll have those “Jackie, Jackie”’s stuck in my head a while
@xfloorpunchx Feb 2022
I try to didnt look at the lyrics, just started this tv show. I love the glassy vocal sound as @wolveerie said! Reminds me My Bloody Valentine! You really made an awesome job here!
@sadloaf Feb 2022
I'm just here because you left a nice comment on my song. I've never seen Yellowjackets. It's got an almost 5th wave emo feel with the vocals and the sample. Keep up the jams.
@clownresidue Feb 2022
i love everything about this. the instrumentation is so good and the chorus is so catchy!!
@wolveerie Feb 2022
Love the high glassy sound of the vocals! and that guitar part really rocks

Hmmm...I was hesitant, as an ad for that show always pops up whenever I pause my DVR. I was super turned-off cause I hate bees and the picture for the show is a bee on a cheek (aka just really really afraid of anything in the bee family, I run away like a small child), so I had no intentions of ever checking it out - but the premise as you describe it sounds kinda interesting. Like Lost a little.
But forget all that, this songs is rocking!
Love the feel of the rocking music with the awesome pop vocals.
Vocal melodies are super-catchy and I'm loving the fx and mix on them.
Even without knowing anything about the show, the lyrics and style still work totally - really has that 90s vibe where things like this were great for the listener to just sit and wonder about while they swayed.
Yeah this simply sounds friggin great - so well done.
Again, love the vocals!

I haven't seen this show, but somebody at work was raving about it.
However, that aside, i liked the song. You're right it's 90s indiepop as well, i was just thinking it's the kind of music i would go out to hear in a pub, back when you could afford to do that and pubs still had live music!
@rayboneor Feb 2022
Love it! This is totally my cup of tea. The crunchy guitar, bouncy beat, and breezy melody all hit the sweet spot for me. I didn't read the lyrics, and I stopped at the talking bit, because I haven't seen the show yet
@owl Feb 2022
This is so good! catchy and melodic with cool lo-fi production—love the bit where everything crashes back in just after the break and the while thing just soars. One of my favorites I’ve heard so far this year.
@loveonamixtape Feb 2022
Ahhh, super catchy and dreamy 90s indie-rock! Love that guitar riff. The effected vocals really work on this, too. Love how the vocal melody goes up on the "Jackie" lines. The repetition of the second verse with that extra instrumental layer on top is so bright and rich and somehow adds to the sadness of it. The samples from the show work really well, too -- this was super well done! And, lol, as someone who is pulling a lot of inspo this year from another TV show I binged, I feel this, but I think this song works really well on its own merits, too!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Would definitely like to watch Yellowjackets but also I don't wanna miss out on one of your songs so I'm listening but not reading the lyrics, which seems a sensible compromise! The only spoiler I've picked up so far is that there's a character named "Jackie". I'm really into fuzzy guitars / FX-y vocals recently* and this is way up my street, it's so propulsive and noisy and poppy and fun.
* have you heard this? it's incredible

some great guitar parts. i watched yellowjackets, so had to click on this one. good job!
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
Really like this - has a great punky-pop feel to it. I can see why it's a favourite! Love the guitar part - such good energy. Not having seen the show doesn't spoil it, but maybe there could be a deeper connection if I'd seen it.
Many years ago I saw the film Alive (similar plane crash vibes) in the Peruvian rainforest, two days before flying back over the Andes in a small plane in awful weather. I made notes during the film in case I needed survival tips (spoiler - I didn't need my survival notes. We were fine).
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
i think te song can stand on its own. i have never seen the tv show yet enjoyed the song. i especially like how the usic goes when you sing "jackie:" and i liked your singing and the guitars throughout
