there's a sapling in the forest
trying to grow into a tree
there's a sapling in the forest
nobody can see
does it matter if it withers
does it matter if it dies
should we care at all
about its demise
won't the old trees last forever
do we need new growth at all
they tower towards the heavens
surely they'll never fall
there are trawlers filled with shark fins
sailing out upon the seas
they hack the fins off when they catch them
the sharks body’s just debris
they serve the fin in a soup
the rich patrons gladly pay
does it really matter how many
sharks they slay
the vast ocean is full of fish
in its waters deep and dark
we kill them in their millions
why should we care about a shark

Gut wrenching lyrics and delivery. Pete Seeger would have loved this song and his disciples probably will too. You deserve to get your songs heard far beyond FAWM 6 the Seasons.

It's amazing how very specific "a shark" comes across, startling really. That made me sit up and look hard at "ourselves." Like others, I appreciated the matter of fact and only slightly wistful delivery of this, and again the balance of the small guitar with your singing is a pleasure to hear.

Nice write! Captures human shortsightedness perfectly.

Great song. Really powerful writing. You do a great job honoring the parts of nature we can dismiss or not think of. Beautiful perspective

Such a powerful message in this one. Brilliant lyrics. Well delivered as always.

Brilliant lyric. I am totally in love with that little guitar, what model is it? :)

If I may borrow a term...Brill!

I like how you've written a song about how shortsighted we humans are without it coming across as preachy, which isn't easy to do at all. I'm always a sucker for songs that play around with those Cadd9 etc chords. Nice performance too, by the way!

I like this. Powerful lyrics, especially when you get into the second verse.
