Feb 2022 fang-pop musical symphonic-pop hill-street-blues capochallenge ccwelcome
Finally! This one took way too long to put together, from working out the counterpoint in the guitar to the accumulation of all the parts and pieces. This was a real pain to mix, but with these stories I always seem to put together a grand expository dramatic flourish to kick things off, and this is no exception.
This will, if all goes according to plan, be a series of songs outlining The Lady of the House of Love, a vampire story by Angela Carter. I make no promises to make the tale sensible or even hew to the original - this first song includes but a single sentence from the pages that cover the opening - but I will try to make it entertaining, and to not leave you hanging at the end of the month should you choose to come along. I will number and title all related songs as HOL(House of Love) And to anyone else making any of the various fang genres, please leave me a note. I'd love to check out your work.
ps. yes, Hill Street Blues. Always loved that theme song and always wanted to work it in..
A lion's head of stone that pours out water,
this we left behind, and our homes,
and where we go is nowhere but
the sweetest life is yet to unfold,
free of the shadow
that falls from the house on the hill,
and the one who lurks there still.
Such beauty and yet so pale,
her pointed canines shining under the stars
and moonless dark,
and hair falling down like tears,
the child of Nosferatu,
now all alone and looking down.
And the mute, the crone, once governess,
now servant to this queen of night,
crabs her way down the slope from the house by day,
to sit by the lion's mouth, and offer succor
and silent greeting to weary travelers on their way,
and thirst slaked, they follow her
bent and beckoning figure
up to the house to dine-
to stay.

Ambitious idea for a song cycle, and I loved this one from the absolute beginning! (I'll have to listen to more, of course, but this works as a standalone piece.)
Such dramatic, well-done playing and singing! The vocal shift in the last verse is a cool touch, too.

Shades of The Blue Nile, if you've not heard them check them out, you will be soul brothers.

Very interesting song and vocal delivery. Full of emotion
@jeff9 Feb 2022
Amazing how clear these lyrics paint the picture. It's like the trailer for an imaginary film. And I want to see the whole thing! Very Bowie-esque in a way. Superb acoustic guitar tone and chock full of interesting musical moments.

Forgot to comment this yesterday! What a damn cool guitar picking and piano playing. Why does this remind me on Peter Gabriel? Okay exept for the lyrics that follow all goth traditions. I'm in love with the chord progression
@mikehex Feb 2022
Really enjoyed the structure, the first verse started to feel a little forced right before it breaks into the instrumental bridge to the second, and from there it's a rush to the finish. Not sure whether that was an intentional use of tension, but it works. Great guitar throughout

Firstly, that guitar work is awesomeness. Everything together is so dramatic with a great story unfolding. Great vocal delivery. I’m definitely keen on hearing how your plan works out.
@cheslain Feb 2022
This is so wonderfully dramatic. Lots of musical details going on keeping things very interesting. Great art-pop sound. I think this is quite an original take on a ghost story, you avoid the clichés but still manage to achieve that haunting vibe. Definitely interested to hear more of this.
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
That intro is fabulous! Peter Gabriel-vibes. I love the drama in your vocals, lyrics, and overall composition. Moody Blues and this, please!

'Hey, let's be careful out there!'
Perfect imagery. Very well crafted and well painted.
A lot of work but it certainly paid off.
I'm tempted to go in..... to stay.
@jorgevallentine Feb 2022
What a cool intro and great playing throughout. You clearly have a lot of practice with arranging a lot of instruments/sounds to fit together in a nice way that lets each part stand out and have its own space!
@nagavaeoe Feb 2022
Holy shit dude! This is stunning! Creative orchestration, dramatic singing, and love the lyrics! The cackle! Fantastic guitar!
@majordanby Feb 2022
There are some real lightning licks in this guitar parts. Huge epic song with lots of drama and dynamics. It must have been a real love hate experience putting it all together. We’ll done.
@rayboneor Feb 2022
I knew that if you were taking a while to get a "real" song up here, it was because you were gonna make it great, and you did. I love the finger picking. The song is so dramatic and atmospheric, but it really moves, too. The gentle finish is really fantastic
@steviej Feb 2022
hey, I was certainly feeling that musical feel to this one, some of the lyrics in this are fantastic and visual, I can imagine her crabbing her way down the slope. I really enjoyed the music but maybe thought the intro was a tad long, still great job!
