Feb 2022 guy-with-piano ballad sentimental romantic
Care of elderly parents has suddenly put me on one side of the Atlantic and my wife on the other for most of February. So… I miss her.
I’m without my usual recording devices and instruments. Just an iPad, a borrowed guitar, and my parents’ baby grand. This was the best I could do in an hour after my parents had gone to bed. Thankfully (and sadly) they don’t hear well enough to be bothered by my playing. So here it is, unplugged and no filter. This is for Meta back in España.
I miss you like the sugar in my coffee
You’re the touch that smooths the bitterness away
I miss you like the birdsong in the dawning
You’re the melody that sings me to the day.
Miles are only miles, but there they lie
My stars come out when sunrise paints your sky
I miss you like my arm would miss its bone
Like Elvis missed his twin
Like Bilbo longed for home again.
I miss you.
Piano break
Miles are only miles, but there they lie
Your stars are twinkling while my sun is high
And I...
Miss you like the fairy lights at Christmas
You’re the promise that my life is more than plain
I miss you like my book of childhood stories
With you the dragons really can be slain.
Time is only time, and it goes by
Oceans can be crossed, and so can sky
But I
Still miss you
I miss you
I miss you.

Oh what a heartfelt love song. May you be reunited soon.
We're in that sandwich age as the Spanish call it. Our fledglings are ready to leave (or have already left) the nest and our parents are in the wintertime of their lives. It can be a sad time, but one that is fully within the "circle of life". So it goes... as Vonnegut would have said.

Oh, so sweet. It's amazing you were able to write and record this so beautifully...(unplugged and no filter are perfectly suited for this) while your parents were sleeping. If they had heard you i'm sure it would have made them quite happy.

Such a meaningful love song that feels timeless and enduring. I love the stripped back feel- in my opinion it is actually more meaningful that way than fully produced. Amazing what you accomplished in an hour.

This made me cry. We are all so wrapped up in recording and making everything perfect, but singing and songs were meant to be emotional, raw and real, just like this. I love your voice and I can hear the sentiment in it and in the music, it is real and heartfelt and there is a lucky gal in the world probably feeling the same. Difficult to have your heart in two places, but your parents have been dealing with that just as long, you are a piece of their hearts and time will eventually show you that you shared your heart and spent your days to suit your soul.

What a gorgeous love song
No matter what you have available for production, your music always touches me.

Hey, having a piano to play while you are away from your home makes it a little easier! Taking care of parents shows what a good person you are (I had to do the same last year for my mom for several weeks, unfortunately my dad's old piano was so out of tune, I never touched it).
A very heart-string-pulling song.

Very cool, Jon. It's a tender, romantic lyric and the piano music and vocals fit perfectly. Instant classic!

This is A+! Nice melody and singing. Great job especially under tough conditions. I'm a first time FAWMer and enjoying it a lot. We're going through a care of seniors issue right now as well. Hope everything goes well for you on that front.

Love songs. Is there a better way to send thoughts to a loved one?
And the beauty of it all is, we can listen too.
Thank you for the music Jon.
Hope your doing well back home and enjoy sharing some time with your parents.

I love the poetry in this, it's so soulful and true in the best way - intimate and touching but real and grounded at the same time. And every line is artful, like every phrase is turned into your own language..."Like Bilbo longed for home again" that line really got me. Great work thank you so much for making this
@silvermediapro Feb 2022
ooooh right off the bat i love the chord progression of the piano! so heartfelt & soothing! :D
@panch Feb 2022
What a beautiful song, such strong melodies and heartfelt lyrics.
Really nice performance too with a lot of emotion coming through the singing.
@kendrakinsey Feb 2022
I love it. You’re great on the piano, hope to hear more! Of course you’re fam comes first
@kadmad202 Feb 2022
This is beautiful, Jon. I was sorry to hear that your parents are needing extra care right now, but how nice that you are able to come all the way over from your home to help them out. I’m sure they appreciate it. Nothing like distance from the people we love to bring out feelings that can turn into such a lovely song.
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
such a gorgeous melody and heartfelt lyrics that almost burst out of the notes via the lonely passon of your performnce. it has been a long time since i heard a love song of this calibre.
@fonte Feb 2022
Ooh that piano! How beautiful. Love the vocal delivery too. I’m hearing Randy Newman again (I’ve said that a few times this FAWM! But it’s meant as a huge compliment).
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Lovely Jon, i understand about the miles between! Youve captured it so well. Pretty melody and easy delivery. Very enjoyable listen.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Lovely write. I can definitely feel for the separation you sing about: my wife was away for 12 weeks this past summer caring for her mother. The stars/sun lyric is perfect...
@leakyplusme2 Feb 2022
That is beautiful.
