Feb 2022 fuc baritone tremolo lullabye
I had grand ideas for this evening and I couldn't finish any of them because I couldn't get out of my own way. Now it's time to go to bed so here's the worst lullaby ever.
It’s too late, that ship has sailed
Go to sleep, knowing that you failed
You tried your best, it can’t be helped
Your greatest enemy is yourself
It’s too late, yes life can be cruel
And you have to get up and go to school
There’s so much on your plate and it’s
Just too late
It’s too late, and time is better spent
Going to work so that you can pay the rent
You shouldn’t neglect your loving spouse
Or simply ignore your squalid house
It’s too late, and this is just a tease
To distract from your warped priorities
No sense trying to be great cuz it’s
Just too late
You’ll just write something you hate cuz it’s
Just too late

The gentle and kind voice you sing the vocals in hit up against these absolutely scathing and deep-cutting words is the kind of thing that makes me emote unexpectedly. Perhaps there's too many things in the lyrics that hit me right in the face personally.
I def get a visual of some dream-like entity, perhaps even a ghost of someone I cared about, just sat in mid-air with their ethereal guitar, cross-legged with a spiritual shawl on their shoulders...all while I'm in bed just laying there stone-faced because I know the things they are singing at me are true, and then tears just start to pour down my face.
Curious - how did you come to the decision to sing these lyrics in the lullaby style that you chose? What came first, the style or the lyrics?
In any event, this was terrible and beautiful and hurtful and soothing and I loved it.
Its like the kindest person telling someone "you done beeped up, now...its too late, the world is ending".

Oh dear. Well that's very nice, isn't it? It's like an important lesson set to song in a 1960's Paddington Bear Cartoon. Very plainly and directly using vivid colors, softness and just enough detail. This was a treat. Thanks very much.
@wolfkier Feb 2022
Ha, there's such a great irony here...
It's a lovely lullably to failure. Sweet dreams. Well done!

You'll just write something you hate cuz it's too late! It didn't make me go to sleep, it made me laugh out loud!!

I like that vocal filter. Your songs this year make me travel in time. And the lyrics are masterful. Wonderful!
@fiddlerblick80 Feb 2022
This hit too close, I’m gonna take it in a solid embrace. Awesome.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
Lol. This was hilarious and fun :)
I’m not sure how you get your vocal tone but I like it
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Vocal is really a cool effect, reminding me of a late nights as a kid listening. to the transistor radio. I can very much relate to the concept. I needed this last night!
@enzo Feb 2022
seriously good. i learn so much from your mastery
@enzo Feb 2022
LOL! This is so perfect, but in true form, you managed to turn lemons into LEMONADE! How do you always manage to bust it out, even when it’s “just too late”?? I need a lesson
@kovbleu Feb 2022
You may not have met the grand idea you had for the day (I think many of us have been there), but kudos to you for creating this because it's so relatable and a very good and worthy thing of its own! I think the vintage tone on your vocals fit the mood perfectly.
@erbaer Feb 2022
I don’t think this is the worst lullaby ever because that one would probably be annoying to listen to… which this is not. It’s easily the loveliest self-pummeling I ever heard. Tomorrow's another FAWM day.
@kevinmason Feb 2022
Oof, I know this feeling! It’s hard to let go and admit “it’s too late”. You somehow manage to say it’s too late to get anything written while writing something lovely. A delicate balance. Nice job with the lullaby feel.

Like @ayehahmur I'm listening to this in the morning. And like @ayehahmur I agree it's a stone cold FAWM anthem. Love the production on the vocal, with the slight lo fi, radio effect. The lyrics are very dry and very very relatable - we've all been there - and sound advice too. What I really loved, though, were the augment at the end of the first section, and then that chord right at the end (would love to know what that is...?).

Love this, my clever friend! Vintage Carley Baer!
@leakyplusme2 Feb 2022
I love it.

I'm ironically enjoying this first thing in the morning here in Scotland. This may not be the song you wanted to record tonight but...actually? It's pretty great. It's got a lovely chanson feel, sweet melody, great passing chords and I have a feeeling it might just become a FAWM anthem in years to come. I'll certainly be downloading it to play to myself in situations where I need to tell myself it doesn't matter, go to bed, tomorrow's another day. So thanks!
