Well hello there!
Once upon a time around 2003
I was a bit obsessed with a book called
THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER
So if you were once an emo scene kid
Who read sad and feely books
You may be familiar with the concept of the last line of this song.
But most of it is just thoughts blops about my days of yore.
I scribbled around with the drum beats on GarageBand
(Which I am actually having fun with, thankfully)
And it turned into a funky little tune.
Not sure what was going on with the mic thing
Kind of sounds like I'm singing into a blanket
But that's what Emo kids do anyway, right?
And hey, there are lyrics right below for you to clarify the matter!
Thank you for stopping in and I hope you always wear a seatbelt even if you're feeling infinite because not wearing one will make you potentially a lot more finite a lot quicker.
Lyrics:
I had something to tell to you
I guess I forgot
I guess I forgot
I guess I forgot
Someday it may come back to me
But then it might not
Then it might not
Then it might not
That time increased in value
Remember back when
Remember back when
Remember back when
Nostalgia doesn’t cost much
So play it again
So play it again
So play it again
How does time go by without moving me?
Close my eyes and I’m right back where we would be
We had big conversations
Up on the roof
Up on the roof
Up on the roof
Those summer nights went quickly
We grew up too soon
We grew up too soon
We grew up too soon
Why do all good things have to come to an end?
Wrapped in dark, warm skies we were infinite...
Infinite...
We were Infinite...

I absolutely love this. I think the repetition is especially evocative because they are the sort of regrets and memories that repeat over and over in our heads and it echoes that process. Without the analysis, I could just lay back, listen and enjoy the gentle and somehow uplifting melancholy.

Good stuff, really enjoyed the listen.

The hook, the harmonies, the beats, all work really well. Enjoyed this, thanks!

The sparkly bits that come in the first time at "How does time go by..." and fade out were a nice addition to the electric piano. Favorite line: "That time increased in value"

This is great! The arrangement is superb, and the whole thing felt like floating on a cloud. This also makes me excited to play around in GarageBand.

There is magic here. I can’t put my finger on it, maybe it’s the mids and upper end that dominate, or the octave vocals or the beat or maybe it’s all of it. I think it might be the lack of a baseline which really shines a light elsewhere like onto your vocals. There was this guy named Prince who did that one time on a song called When Doves Cry. Yeah I think this has a Prince sparkle without the syncopation but with your intimate vocals instead.

"Time increased in value", great lyrics. The simple images are so relatable and immediately bring us back in our own minds. Very powerful stuff nostalgia. And that last bit is perfect to close it out.

I’m not exactly an emo kid (whatever that actually is), but I love this song, with its oh-so-relatable lyrics, and dreamy vibe. Your voice fits it perfectly and your sporadic octaves and harmonies are very effective. Nice job with GarageBand, too!

ooh venturing into the DAW world now. This works really well right from the get go with those drums and the rhodes. You're gonna be a wizard at this before you know it. Good choice of instrumentation. Repeating the phrases in the lyrics really helps make this song.

All the textures here, vocal, keys, drums work so well together. Love the nostalgic/wistful tone to the lyrics.

The formatting made me think your liner notes were the lyrics at first (!) This has such a nice, warm progression on that e-piano, and although it's a simple idea, just the BVs an octave up at the end of each line really elevates the track.

I think this is fine... the dryer and muffled feel to the vocal tone matches the lyrical concept. And your melody and arrangement are great.
@jessicamoon Feb 2022
very cool use of repetition, I love your voice and the dreamy parts especially.

Agree with @quork that repeats are very effective! For singing into a blanket, I wouldn't worry too much about production value for FAWM, some folks go all out and some focus on the songs and draw a line between the art and the artifice. My favorite line is "How does time go by without moving me?", that's such a relatable idea expressed in a novel way.

I'm a sucker for a good Rhodesy/Wurli sound. Love the low harmonies. Nice job!

I really like structure of this song, with the repeating second line of the verses. Nostalgia set to a cool, laid back groove. Favourite line: Close my eyes and I’m right back where we would be. Makes me think of where you would be if things had worked out better, if you hadn’t forgot what you wanted to tell them. I think your vocals sound great; they would stand out in the mix if the keys were a little lower. Really nice.
