Since I'm doing a 90's rock record this year, it needed a proper 90's rock ballad a la "Glycerine". This one was written for my wife, McKensy
We come alive around midnight. When the demons run wild. We speak a lot about better times. When the world was ours
We made a life here you and I, when we were young
I was bold and you were shy, but those days are gone.
We’re hanging on to a memory, and I guess that’s fine
Just as long as we still believe, we can get it right
Life comes at you fast, it’s just the way it is
We’ve done our best to make love last, and I’m glad we did
I still remember fireworks on the rooftop
And waiting for you, to change your mind but you never you gave up
I still hold onto the promises that we made back then
We’ve lived almost every single one of them
As We move on to this second act of life, I want you to know that, I’m still by your side
You like to joke about never getting the best of my songs.
I disagree, but I’m any case, hope you like this one.
I still remember fireworks on the rooftop
And waiting for you, to change your mind but you never you gave up
I still hold onto the promises that we made back then
We’ve lived almost every single one of them

I definitely feel what you were going for. I enjoy the layers on the chorus, and those lyrics, "Waiting for you to change your mind but you never gave up". Sweet and hopeful.

@suburbanfolk That’s a great idea!

You've nailed the 90s rock ballad, for sure. The right sound, awesome guitar work, and a solid lyric full of nostalgia for younger days and celebration of enduring love. Nice!

Great guitar sound.
The imagery of the fireworks on the roof evoked some wonderful scenes.
I would advice starting the song on the second measure where you had the lead guitar going so it doesn't sound too derivative of Glycerine.

I love the arrangement on this. The guitar sound is awesome. As always the sense of melody is so strong and really drives the song. This is shaping up to be a great album

Oh dang just got to where you did it yourself. I'll see myself out now.....

Nice!!. If you recorded this to a click I would be honored to contribute drums via EZ Drummer and an electric bass line.

You weren't kidding with the "a la Glycerine" for sure. The only thing that could make this more 90s rock ballad is if you were putting on the Vedder/Stapp/Rossdale voice. I don't think this needs any of that though, honestly. So yeah you nailed it. I think this carries itself surprisingly well even without drums and bass for most of it. The vocals and lyrics are a super solid groundwork for that.
