Well this was a palate cleanser! It would seem that ukulele players really like songs about playing the ukulele, so here's a little something I wrote for my favorite uke player.
Some girls dream of lovers with the beauty of the gods
And others dream of lovers with the dough
What I dreamed for daily was a heartfelt ukuklele
A four-string serenading Romeo
I’m here to tell you dreams come true and now my life’s complete
We’re happy with our eight strings and our love
There’s just one catch – whenever we try to sing together
He simply cannot find the note a major third above
You’ve got that Formby strum and a rhythm that I like
You’ve got more luscious licks than Ukulele Ike
Your melody’s entrancing and your chords can make me swoon
You just can’t sing the harmonies, though we still stay in tune
You’ve got that falsetto to rival Tiny Tim
You’re cuter than heck than old Roy Smeck and got more fleas than Jumpin’ Jim
You can woo me with your diminished fourths from July straight into June
You just can’t sing the harmonies, though we still stay in tune
Well you get an A+ for effort, I hear you practice all night long
The minor thirds and demented sixths from an Andrews Sisters song
But regardless of my coaching and the wisdom I impart
You always jump right back to the melody line
Because you just can’t bear to be so far apart
Well unison’s an option, it’s like seeing eye to eye
But you just can’t beat how very sweet it is
When you sing low and I sing high
The bottom line is that I love you no matter what you croon
You just can’t sing the harmonies, though we still stay in tune
You just can’t sing the harmonies, though we still stay in tune

This is great and sadly relatable.

Haha! So fun and clever! I love songwriter-nerd songs-lol! A great arrangement as well.
@mikegtz Feb 2022
Very clever, Erin. Harmonies can be challenging.
@christmascard Feb 2022
So good, everything about it - my favourite FAWM song so far!
I’m jealous of… well, everything about it :)
@suehaney Feb 2022
This is just the cutest love song I have heard. And very funny since I know your husband.
@paulharrison Feb 2022
Wow....what a fun, extremely well written song! I'd say you "get an A+"...for more than just effort. Excellent job...again!
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
If I didn't know you from your other songs, I'd say you were born for this. Doomed to wear a bowtie. (Why is there a high crossover between ukes and bowties?) Tightly written with tons of wit. Particularly enjoyed the demented sixths.
@natalie Feb 2022
This is absolutely BRILLIANT! I truly adore it. The lyrics are so clever, and your voice is so glidingly sweet. It floats and flutters with perfect ease above the ukulele and the fun jazz rhythm. Everything about this is just right, from start to finish. Excellent!
@liz561 Feb 2022
I love the internal rhyme of the third lines. So fun and bouncy with a real 30s style. I'm picturing Danno in my minds' eye and laughing.
@jtsteam Feb 2022
A song about a ukulele? What's not to like? This is great fun, and sung so well! Also I'm one of those people who can't sing harmonies... I try... but...
@analogj Feb 2022
How FUN!!!!
A new classic!!!!
@emmasully19 Feb 2022
This is AMAZING!
@leslie333 Feb 2022
Ha ha ha! I LOVE this. (and I'd love it still if I didn't know you two!) Great ukulele references. And the tune is great, lyrics, natch! And it speaks to me because I fear I am one of those people who can't sing harmonies! Always get dragged into the melody. Like I watched a tv show set in Scotland and then later was talking in my head with a Scottish accent. (oh brother!)
@bethdesombre Feb 2022
So. Much. Fun. I like the way you go up the major third when you introduce the concept. So many creative ways to frame things (July straight into June) and the best part is framing it as "because you just can't bear to be so far apart." Love all the details that will make sense to uke players but can also be figured out in context by the rest of us.
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Another absolute gem. Bloomin delightful and wonderfully humorous. Love the uke too!
@ericlord Feb 2022
Haha wow that's really fun :)))) but also a really well written song!
Peace
@davidtaro Feb 2022
So accomplished! So many great lines! I'm listening to that cute intro and I can already tell I'm going to love it when the 'band' kicks in. There's a little moment where you tap out a counter rhythm on the 'You always jump right back to the melody line' where I literally applauded. The uke playing is also brilliant btw. Great write!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Indeed some do, never really got it (and i teach it). Very clever major third abovvvvvvvvve. Very well done clever and catchy
@tseaver Feb 2022
Fun write: love the "demented sixths," and the motivation ("you just can't bear to be so far apart") is the bomb. Wonderful production!
@richaaaay Feb 2022
That was delightful. Super well done and just plain fun. Fantastic lyrics, instrumentation and vocals. You hit the trifecta!!!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Amazing again, and I didn't know Danno can't sing harmony! This is so well crafted and you hit so many ukulele references. So tightly written and the lyrics just flow. Love how the backup comes in. Brilliant.
@yam655 Feb 2022
This is great! Those are some great ukulele references, too! A lovely song.
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
Oh, this is so cute. I enjoyed both the singing and the playing, and the message--well, my singing partner can't figure out how to sing harmony either, which is kind of limiting, performance wise. So I feel your frustration!
@ekunyi Feb 2022
Oh this is so delightful and endearing! Great references, great playing, and just super catchy! <3
@kanttila Feb 2022
Great song! Lyrics are real fun and wow what a fantastic vocal! It's especially great how your vocal delivery fits in with the lyrics.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Such a lovely voice! And I love the story, and I feel the pain! I think I could only do a unison if I had to! Great production here, the song sounds so lively!
@kaminokai Feb 2022
Fun.
