I caught him staring at me - passing judgement
And I admit it left me unnerved
It was my first time at church
And I wasn’t looking to be seen
I just missed the singing and the community vibe
Wanted to be part of something bigger than I
There’s a bigger picture and a better place
Where we don’t have judgement or hide our face.
She saw me staring at her- I was sketching her hair
And I didnt mean to leave her unnerved
It was her first time alone
In a restaurant
And she wasn’t looking to be seen
She missed being about the laughter
Wanted to be part of something bigger than her.
We saw them staring at us frowning and stuff
Leaving us feeling unnerved
We maybe looked different - had an accent
But we weren’t hoping to be seen
We miss the feeling of home and being natural
Wanted to be part of something bigger -
Bigger than us.

I like the way you took "judgment day" here -- and particularly given that the the initial event happened in church, emphasizes the relationship. I like the way this turned out (so I don't know what the other versions were like, but this one works). Especially the chorus melody. One thing I wonder about would be a clearer rhyme scheme (or more of one).
