This Blues song is about looking to the future and not the past and sometimes we just have to realize that. I had the title as “Sitting on the edge of the world”. Jamie (@darbyam) and I were working on some lyrics when our fellow musician showed and quickly came up with a very good set of lyrics. He did the vocal this past weekend. He suggest the title to be “Sitting on the Edge of the Blues”...pretty good title.
Music and arrangement: Garry Kirby
Lyrics: Nelson Jenkins, Garry Kirby and Jamie (@darbyam)
Sung by: Nelson Jenkins( and harb)
Sitting on the Edge of the Blues
Corner of the world
Nature in my lens
Can’t capture what I’m feeling
No use to pretend
Time is just a-wasting
When you’re sitting on the edge of the blues
Don’t try to understand
It’s only you can choose
Life don’t last forever
It’s time to make a move
Get those feet a moving
When you’re sitting on the edge of the blues
CHORUS
Climb that mountain
You can’t lose
If you’re sitting on the edge of the blues
Sitting on the edge
Looking all around
World keeps on a spinning
Your Feet solid ground
Look in to your future
When you’re sitting on the edge of the blues
Do what you want to do
See what you want to see
Swim the widest the river
Climb the tallest tree
When you’re sitting on the edge of the blues

I like how the bassline leads the melodic rhythm. Lyrics pushing to avoid depression. Fun lap steel or slide in there, one of my favorite tones. Simple heartfelt plea to sidestep depression. Enjoyed the harmonica solo.

This has a great country blues feel. Harmonica is a nice touch. I really like this message. Life is just too short to get lost too long in the blues. Love this!

Love the rocking back and forth on those 2 chords in the beginning - it totally sets the vibe. Great title and song concept - and such a good message. Wonderful bluesy deep vocals! Fantastic guitar playing and harmonica too :D What a cool collab.

Great message in the lyrics, and I love how it all comes together in a song that sounds like a classic.

Love the arrangement. Great vocal @darbyam - I love your tone. Such a good message in this one. We all need to live life to the fullest! Oooh sweeeet harmonica. Love it.

Great title! Really wonderful arrangement. Every instrument (and oh that harmonica... ;) ) has earned its place. Fantastic melody/music and vocals, and a memorable performance. The song is a treat to listen to. :)
Really well done, y'all. (-:

My toes are tapping along. This comes across as a roots classic. I'm digging the harp/guitar break. Tuneful and soulful. Postive and forward looking lyrics. Great collab.
@jerrypettit Feb 2022
Another great arrangement, Garry. Nice collab on the lyrics, the three of you.
I really enjoyed this!

Good ol' sound here to this country sounding blues. Nice powerful vocals from your friend.
Great lyrics, too.
Ooooh love me some harmonica!
Guitars sound great - the backing makes me rock back and forth.
The vocal melody has a good sing along feel.
Nice team-up!

What a great feel to this. Love the sway and restraint . . . the swing is also sitting on the edge. The vocals have a Doc Watson quality that suits this song perfectly. I especially like how you introduce new elements in progressive sections to propel the song forward . . . i.e. the slide guitar at 1:08 is nice touch as are the intervals and harmonica at 1:40. The lyric fits as well . . . carpe diem because your sitting on the edge of your own mortality. Props!

I love this! Great hook and good placement of it. And seriously good music and arrangement. Nice job.
Thanks, too, for the comments on Ghost of the Chance.

Loved this...so good...great title and performance...
@djevans53 Feb 2022
Oooh! love the bluesy style. Interesting perspective, nice lyrics.

Hey Garrett! I like this a lot. 'Love the title and how it fits with the verses. Well played and sung, too. I like the way the chorus breaks up the verses a little bit. If you don't mind one idea, you might make the chorus even more effective if it was just a little longer...like double the length of what comes before "If you're sitting at the edge of the blues." Just a thought. It's great as is, though. Very well done!
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Love where you go on the third line with that chord on 'feeling'. Sitting on the Edge of the Blues is an absolutely kick-ass title. Has no one ever used that? You could sell that sh*t to Buddy Guy! Great harp solo. Singing is solid as an oak on this one too. Well done!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
Dude this is LIT! Brilliant take on a blues song.
@cts Feb 2022
I have to agree; the title is apropos. I appreciate the lyrics that suggest doing something and not just sitting around when one is on the cusp of catching the blues. I believe the great Johnny Cash said to get rhythm. Well, this is pack full of that and harp, ace guitar playing and super production. Well done to all of you. This is jammin'.
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
G, this collab sounds great! The guitar, harp, vocals, and production sound so slick. A blues song with a good message—look ahead. Be in the moment. Forget the past. Let the blues wash over you!
@nadine Feb 2022
Wow these vocals! I like that you didn't use a standard chord progression and it still sounds bluesy. Great catchphrase, this sticks in my head. This song is a winner. Some nice drums, a good mix and it can be played on the radio. Not kidding!
@wacha Feb 2022
This is a great collaboration, there's a cool, dark, bluesy feel to the arrangement but it's not heavy. This one works for me on a few levels, nice.job to all of you.
@richaaaay Feb 2022
This entire song holds together well. Good lyrics and singing but the best part for me was the break. Loved the guitar and harp going at it but in an understated way.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Nice write: the hopeful, forward-looking lyric is a refreshing change. Fun harp and guitar solos FTW.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Really fun collaboration. I just jived along with it.
@sheilerk Feb 2022
I love a good blues song/story. I like your hook line a lot. Get moving is great advice. I really enjoyed this!
