The Paintcard challenge is always a good one for inspiration!
I've been really wanting to get my new keyboard front and center in a song this year, as I think the piano sounds are awesome!
I borrowed a little of this song from my 12-year-old song 'Everything Fades', which was on my first album.
Burnt Orchid
The image of a white orchid
In a crystal vase
Is the only memory
I have of you because
Memories are fragile
I know that they won’t last
It’s time for me to move on
And stop living in the past
Everything burns up and fades away
I’m still not ready to face a new day
My views are permanently distorted
Staring at the ashes of a burnt orchid
I was far from home
Traveling that day
The voice on the telephone
Saying you’d passed away
The fire had destroyed
Everything we had owned
The life we’d had together
Turning a house into a home
Everything burns up and fades away
I’m still not ready to face a new day
My views are permanently distorted
Staring at the ashes of a burnt orchid

The piano is fantastic... as is the melody... And I am very impressed by these beautiful and poignant, story-telling lyrics... All comes together here in a perfect way to give birth to a wonderful new song...

The work on the keys is presto. The lyrics and delivery really hit the feels. Distorted to orchid is a GREAT rhyme. It is always nice to hear a new couplet.

Beautiful melody and your voice sounds beautiful, I can hear the aching longing in it. Really lovely interpretation of the paint card.

A good choice from the challenge and a clever write. I really liked the piano and melody. Thanks for doing the Paint Card Challenge!!

The piano sounds so good and the title is so powerful especially when the lyric concludes.

great title, good lyric nice arrangement and solid vocal, one of your many good ones Mike :-)

My favorite of yours. Perhaps it's the piano, or the intriguing story, or both. This has great imagery. Congrats.

The hauting piano arrangement injects the pathos that the tragic lyrics of the song deserve.
I think the use of the orchid as symbolism works very well, with the narrator haunted by the burnt flower. Highly original.

This is a really interesting way to flip the concept of "burnt orchid" which presumably comes from burnt-tipped orchid. I think the lost of a loved one kind of fits in a macabre way because of the titular plant itself kind of looking blood-soaked. Tying the idea of things metaphorically burning and fading to a literal fire in which the narrator lost a lover is well executed. Good work

This sounds great! Really dig the piano. Looks like you’re cranking em’ out at #6 already. Good work man.
@oswlek Feb 2022
Excellent piano! Can you play this live or was it midi aided? I particularly like the first chord choice after "distorted",
This is definitely a song worthy of putting a fresh post-FAWM coat of polish. :)
