I seem to see the skirmishes posted just as they end, so this is an hour late, but done in an hour.
The prompt was paranoia, which I think a lot of people are being accused of lately. I'm not so sure it's paranoia....
Lyrics-only right now. Anyone want to join me with some music?
May tweak this a bit later.
It’s not paranoia,
Somebody once said,
If they’re really after you.
Now I’ve given some thought,
Read and listened a lot.
I believe the unbelievable’s true!
CH:
So you’ll find me body rocking
In a corner 'neath the stairs.
While the sky is falling
it seems nobody cares.
The forests may be burning
While the permafrost is melting,
But the planet just keeps turning,
-And you’ll find me
body rocking
Society is splitting
But, that’s all part of the plan
While the rich make their money off the poor.
We are just the cogs in their money machine
And all they care about is more
And more
and more
and more!
All they care about is more.
CH:
So you’ll find me body rocking
In a corner 'neath the stairs.
While the sky is falling
it seems nobody cares.
The forests may be burning
While the permafrost is melting,
But the planet just keeps turning,
-And you’ll find me
body rocking

Nice set of lyrics about topics and happenings that are of concern, you describe well the imagery of protecting oneself from all of this. #tit4tat.

Lovely, reminded me of the old it's not boasting if you really did it.
And you turn these big issues into deep and disturbing personal concerns turning the conspiracy theory idea on it's head. Well done.

Agree with @berni1954 that this seems very real today. Have to alternate hiding in that corner with being out there doing something about! But it is so tempting to stay beneath the stairs.

Really strong lyrics! The Chicken Little reference is quite apt.
Shining a light on the social gaslighting, "nothing to see here". Hope someone puts this powerful message to music.

Oh my that part about being cogs. Pointed and way too true. This is one is really a hard hitter.
@timfatchen Feb 2022
No, it's not paranoia when it's true (though I'm less concerned about the climate side, probably because of the Climategate lies that were exposed, and also I'd be quite happy to live in the Roman warm period, which we're nowhere near yet, and basically I fear the ice will be on its way, soon, so I enjoy the appearance of Fruit Bats in the warmer southern Australia while i still can...) but despite that little difference, this is a seriously good lyric!

Thanks for your comments - I'm trying to catch up on my listening today :-) ....Great song! I'm hearing is as dark 4-on-the-floor dance pop. "Body rocking" paints a vivid and compelling image here. Good work.

Oh that is deeply disturbing, if only because it seems a description of how things are now rather than a dystopian vision of the future. I share your narrator's sense of helplessness in the face of the wanton ignoring of the tell tale signs we are at a tipping point for the planet. ;-(

I agree that the chorus is really strong and the images are powerful as are the societal comments. Strong write!
@bootlegger Feb 2022
The chorus is a big standout for me. Really captures a feeling. And flows really well. This was fun to read through!
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
I love all the careful thought and understated argument. Disillusionment hurts but then you realize you’re more powerful without the illusions that were discarded. This seems to be somewhere in that middle stage. Nicely portrayed!

I too didn't see it until after it was done. I love that line "I believe the unbelievable's true". The juxtaposition between the personal and the outer world in the chorus is really cool as well. Great skirmish!
