I picked this prompt and feel like I missed the mark on it a bit, well I guess on the surface level I did.
I decided to add the capo challenge to this skirmish, picked a key and threw my capo on the fourth fret nd played the same chords. The first verse came quickly but didn't rhyme which was fine until I wrote the second verse and slipped into rhyme (as I tend to do) so I reworked the first verse and decided to repeat the last line of the first verse in second verse. I'm pretty happy with the feel of this song as it is, I was kind of going for a more modern feel to an old 70s folk song (I was inspired by the paranoia in the 70s movie Let's Scare Jessica to Death). I was going for for a paranoia of feeling like everything you do is wrong. I may revisit this one, I like the folk feel but also think it could have a nice build at the chorus if I make it electronic. Also, the melody clearly needs some work, I didn't really commit to where I wanted to sing.
TLDR: Here's another song of me kind of addressing mental health and a midlife crisis of sorts.
Capo 4 (chords relative to the capo)
Verse: am F C G
Chorus: F am G
Verse:
I don't
Recognize
Myself
Always
Thinking
I can be
Someone else
All these
Years
Spent
Trying
Chorus:
What becomes
Of Us?
Ash to ash
Dust to dust
No one
Really knows
How this
Story goes
Verse:
Maybe I'm
Just another
Lost soul
Who thinks
That they
Found a
Pot of gold
All these
Years
Spent
Searching
Chorus:
What becomes
Of Us?
Ash to ash
Dust to dust
No one
Really knows
How this
Story goes

I can relate to this one. If you can pull it off with just a voice and acoustic guitar you're doing good.
@andrea Feb 2022
I really like the feel of this song. The guitar is so pretty, and your voice is lovely. I enjoyed this song very much :)
@helenseviltwin Feb 2022
The high capo'd guitar and soft vocals produce a really beautiful tone for the song. Really nice.
@gm7 Feb 2022
Hi Catherine
Very soft vocals on this one . I think that the new AT2020 is doing a wonderful job of capturing your vox. A Great melody for those melancholy lyrics and the guitar capo'ed at the fourth fret was a great choice.
@crisp1 Feb 2022
I admire you for all the musical exploring you do, but this reminds me of the wacha I first met 5 years ago and I have to say I just love it. No one makes the guitar sound quite like you and it just hits me, in such a good way, when I hear you play like this. Great vocals, too!
@bjunker Feb 2022
This is very nice. I know you said you'd work on the melody more, and that can lead interesting places, but I also think the simpler melody contrasts nicely with the interestingly busy rhythm guitar, so I hope you keep some of the simpler melody in any later reworking.
Have to say I'm in awe of people who can do skirmishes. I really think a week is a short time to write a song, let alone an hour(-ish)! Impressive.
@ineloquentsd Feb 2022
This is gorgeous. The guitar is deceptively light sounding beneath those melancholy, existential lyrics, which lends the song an overall air if resigned questioning.
@serene123 Feb 2022
Hi Catherine! Agree the guitar is super pretty. Beautiful sad song
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
All comes together here so beautifully, the melody, your guitar work and these gorgeously written words... I enjoy your vocal delivery so much...
@zeekle1998 Feb 2022
I like this, there’s that questioning presence in your vocal. Guitar work is spot on, the change in dynamic works well. Well worth reworking this if that’s your intention.
@momentegalerie Feb 2022
Oh I like your voice!
Nice picking :) first i thought i might mistranslatet skirmish. But i think it's missing (?) Some melody pieces need more harmony but i like where it's going. You chose a melody that's not that easy to sing :) keep it up, i like the low of your voice especially
@audrey Feb 2022
I love this melody. It's fabulous. It made me want to sing along and sing harmony to it too, which I think is the hallmark of a good catchy tune. Your guitar playing is lovely too. Great song Catherine. Kudos!
@srcoops Feb 2022
The guitar is really good. I liked this one.
@bootlegger Feb 2022
Guitar sounds great and I love how you're playing here. Your voice matches everything really well and there's some really cool melodies going on here! Really cool song. Nice work
@tabitha Feb 2022
Oooh, I like that picking you've got going on in the verses. I like the sound as the more folk style but if you go electronic I'd be keen to hear it. I could imagine it that way as well.
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
Beautiful existential verses, and nicely put together. Really nice sound.
@sheilerk Feb 2022
I sure identify with the idea of everything going wrong, it sure did for me as I tried to write and post my lyric for this, but you seem to have nailed what you were going for with your short, to the point lines and your really nice capoed playing.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Contemplative and introspective feel to the lyrics so beautifully delivered with your gorgeous vocals. I have to get back to work after a quick lunch break but hope to join the skirmish later.
@intoyourlight Feb 2022
I love your voice! And the lyrics moved me. So simple, just the guitar and the vocals, and so beautiful :)
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
Missed the skirmish, but that's a great prompt. I might cheat and sneak in later. This is an excellent write that I think does deserve a further revisiting, though this right here is great as is. What you described I think would fit pretty nice just building up to that great chorus a little more and I don't think it would dampen the already good feel this has. The capo'd guitar works perfect.
@nadine Feb 2022
How could a capo sound so good?! I always feel like I play a uke when I put it on my frets. This song sound so different cause you use the upper parts of your voice. Love the sparse lyrics.
@devslev Feb 2022
great voice, great playing, the words take me to the next level of deep songwriting!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
missed this as i was doing FAWMtalk. I really like this that capo works. In the classic Wacha style vocally but a little different musically enjoyed this! pretty guitar!
