who is the assassin? who killed the assassin? who killed the spectators? who is responnsible for all the carnage ? who will step up to the plate and sing this song?
lowhum composer and performer
bill white
they wach the last man standing
they are here to see him fall
the kids more than the men
and the women worst of all
i am trying to see more clearly
through the dark glasses i wear
but everything is smoky brown
insde the yellow air
im watching from the window
of the presidential suite
my rifle locking in upon
the last man on the street
the ones who came to watch him die
had been the first to fall
he hated the ones with guilty eyes
and the innocent most of all
how they died i cannot say
i was high upon the landing
but after all was said and done
i killed the last man standing

You've got to have had a vision or premonition or (in my case anyway) logical prediction of what was going to unfold later when you wrote this lyric, Bill. Now i wait to see who will be the last man standing. It's a worrying composition too, @lowhum. I think Bill infects us all....

I don't know exactly what incident inspired this. But my mind went back to Sarajevo in the War of Independence from Serbia (the only place I know that has had demonstrations in favour of the Russian invasion of Ukraine). I thought of the snipers who set up in the hills above the city and picked off random strangers for no other reason than that they were the "enemy" and therefore not human.

couldn't resist seeing what you might do to a billwhite lyric. Especially one with so bitter an outlook and twist as this. And it's a straight (well, instrumentally and vocally) folk presentation. Which entraps the listener, of course, and doesn't prepare them for the twist! (and the abrupt ending allows them to fall over without music to support!)

twisted tale of a first-person shooter who is also a guitar manipulator.
thrilling.
especially "the first... to fall"

Wow, stripped down lowhum and billwhite. This is a powerful song and a great collab.

Now that my song is written and in the midst of demoing, I was comfortable listening. Really, really nice. I love the held notes at the end of most lines, especially those nnnnnnn's. Such a great effect. To my ear it feels like a touch of regret through a thick padding. I agree with @lowhum that it feels like he channeled Bill, so of course it's a great result.

Wow, wow, wow--@billwhite51 has really put some powerful lyrics together this time. I mean--he always has good lyrics, but THESE are just chilling.
Nice job on the vocal lowhum--great collab, guys!

There you go!

It kinda sounds like you, but my way - so sorry about that!

Bill - I thought I had commented on this one, but apparently I may have had too many tabs open. I was struck by this particular tune. Visuals are spot on; so much tension in the description. The macro story just keeps getting better!

I imagine something btw miss ottis and the desolation row
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
I have to say its excellent but it is good anyway, because it looks like something i would write in so many ways, which is a bit different to what i have seen you write in recent times. It is good for sure.
@owl Feb 2022
Ooh interesting piece. Really vivid writing in the 2nd/3rd verses especially—the yellow and smoky brown instantly conjures up the scene to me.
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
I like this. Do you mind if I try out some music for it?
