Feb 2022 firstfruits girl-with-piano piano scripture psalms lullaby
Finally getting going on FAWM 2022! Hi everyone!
My first offering this year: a setting of portions of the text from Psalms chapter 4, written by David the ancient Israelite king.
Could probably use a cello or viola.
In peace I will lie down and sleep
In peace I will lie down and sleep
In peace I will lie down and sleep
For You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety
There are many who lust for lies
Many who clutch the delusions they prize
Still the Lord sees the faithful ones
And hears them when they cry
Many say, “That we might see some good!”
Lift up the light of Your face on us, Lord
You have put more joy in my heart
Than when their wine abounds

This sounds 100 percent professional to me. Crystal clear vocals, beautiful piano and soothing music. Incredibly moving.

Your voice is lovely, reassuring and pure. It's perfect for this Psalm. You found just the right melody and the accompaniment is perfect.

This is beautiful from the first note! really enjoyed my listen to this! class

Meditative. The gradual chordal shifts in the refrain sounds so good. Favorite line: "[There are] Many who clutch the delusions they prize"

Stunning. Simply gorgeous Hannah.

Splendid words, rich in wisdom and perception. A song so full of grace, in every sense of the word. It's easy to take comfort from this - and I can see people finding this a solace regardless of their beliefs.

Your voice is filled with the Spirit and love. I think it's beautiful as is! A soothing reminder for your listener during these times when there isn't an earthly delusion to clutch onto, only Truth! Stunning first fruit challenge!

Back for my 2nd listen. No need for the cello. The gentle pad of the slow churn of the B3 is just right.
@b3nut Feb 2022
Absolutely gorgeous track Hannah, worth the wait! :D Your progressions are just ace...stunning track! Gonna introduce this one to Blackhawk?
@tseaver Feb 2022
Lovely write: the lullaby quality of the setting suits the psalm (often recited or sung at compline / bedtime). Love the descending bassline and suspensions in the bridge.

Hurray for FirstFruits! And the Psalms. First off, the mood of the music and the cathedral sound of piano and pad is pure peace. I love how the piano echoes the lines, and how goes into a musicbox lullaby register at the end. I’m often annoyed at songs (including mine) that leave spaces hanging between lines with nothing going on, as though the lyrics were all that mattered! The flowing descents of the melody are beautiful, and the music nerd in me likes how often you include the nice tension of the 4th degree (resting on the 7th of the dominant, etc.) and only coming to the tonic at the end of “safety”. It feels real safe there. Very pure singing too.

Lovely, the piano line following the vocal is a really nice touch, really hammers each line home, as if to give you time to reflect on each.

I needed this today. Your voice is incredible.. this made me feel all the things... Thank you ️

This is beautiful. Love that descending piano line and the subtle change to the minor in the third line. Beautiful vocal performance as well.

What a beautiful way to start off FAWM! Your voice sounds rich and lovely, especially in the lower register. And how you’ve chosen to phrase the text is so good (and relatable to today, unfortunately, even as the original was to David’s contemporaries). Will we be hearing this during worship sometime soon? I hope so!

This is a gorgeous offering for First Fruits. So good to hear a Psalm sung in a beautiful way. Lovely melodies and voice. The piano sounds amazing. Wonderfully crafted. Well done.

oh man this is beautiful, your tone is lovely, voice so clear, there are some beautiful things to be plucked from the scriptures.
@judypie Feb 2022
Oh my, this is heavenly, in more ways than one! What a treat, amazing song and recording. Feels like it’s been around forever!

... and breathe... fighting my way through the usual Monday morning slew of work, emails, everything and this song just provided me a glorious moment of calm. So lovely to hear your beautiful voice and playing again. I absolutely love that subtle synth texture in the background. Right, back to work, but seems secondary to good music now. As it should be :)
@pabrizzer Feb 2022
this is beautifully constructed and delivered and gets an amen from me
@jkepler Feb 2022
Beautiful and restful. I particularly enjoyed the piano accompaniement during the repeating phrases, "In peace I will lie down in sleep."
Wonderfully rich firstfruits. May the Lord establish the work of your hands this February!

Lovely. We often do clutch at our delusions, do we not? What would we do without David's songs and poetry? You have done these words great justice!
