Public holiday today. Got sod-all done. Here's the sod-all, bon appetit.
The God of all that grows holds nothing in his hands but dust
We look for life but nothing meets the eye
And any further reaching is an exercise in trust
In those who give their lives to question why
But from our vantage point we took another world as birthright
With every day, and every step we'd learn
Of everything beneath us undetected in its own right
Of all that dwarfs us likewise in return
And like this tiny throng we got to spreading and evolving
We conquered land and sea without resistance
The God of all that grows took swiftest action in resolving
And kept a thousand lifetimes worth of distance
As onward we all fought against our decency and sanity
Until the ones least sane and decent chose
To play the last resort and take the last flag of humanity
And plant it on the God of all that grows
And so we waged our war chests on this most inhuman race
As pride and fear chase us across the stars
But tiny we remain in the immensity of space
And much to small to put a mask on Mars

RAAAR! Yes! I have a musical idea for this. Not entirely sure if I can pull it off as well as I'd like, but going to give it a go, if that's ok.
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
That is a great sci-fi tragedy Stephen.
@gwyn1234 Feb 2022
Amazingly good as either a poem or a lyric!
@cheslain Feb 2022
Brilliant! You create a whole sci-fi saga in just a few verses. Great rhythm and wonderful rhyming. Strong imagery in every line and a thought provoking message.
@sapient Feb 2022
Goodness me.
This is strong stuff.
Very, very good strong stuff.
To wrap humanity's growth, damage and insensitivity to it all in such few words is a marvel.
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Wow, different than what I expected and deep and creative. Intrigues me!

Made me think of 'Interstellar,' but a considerably darker vision (or at least it seems to me). I read this a few times and still trying to fully grasp some of the imagery and symbolism. This is my favorite verse: "As onward we all fought against our decency and sanity / Until the ones least sane and decent chose / To play the last resort and take the last flag of humanity / And plant it on the God of all that grows." This, for me, captures the nearly ineffable scale of the tragedy of our current and, unless we dramatically alter course, likely our future predicament. Thanks for an amazing addition to the #collapsechallenge.
@downburst Feb 2022
Wow. Powerful stuff, and...the alternating seven and five foot lines, pretty virtuosic.
@metalfoot Feb 2022
VERY interesting lyrically. Hmm.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Some really good images here. Is there a particular chorus or just all verses? Wasn't sure. Interesting with the syllable count in each line. I think this will need a very particular musical setting.

Intriguing and powerful. You have a knack for evoking unique and unexpected imagery. Really nice!
