February 7, 2022 I'm in a songwriting group, and our moderator Katrina suggested cold weather for a them prompt this week. The song was written sort of piecemeal, but I had fun! I created a little groove on Logic Pro X earlier in the week and then modified it a little later. I had been visiting my daughter in Columbus, OH, a place we are thinking about moving and it was super cold for this Alabama girl. A very wise lady advised my husband and I that we should really make sure to visit a place during its worst weather before we decide to move there. And it was ok if I had move there next year or something. But I wonder what I would think of living there when I am twenty or thirty years older.
Winter Groove

This song uses the theme prompt: cold weather
Frozen cities aren’t a friend to the old.
Bundle up before you brave the cold.
No one wants to slip and fall in snow.
It’s so much trouble finding will to go.
Although the roofs look pretty
Like white-chocolate cream
If I blink they’ve gone gray
A fleeting winter dream.
Although the roofs look pretty
Like white-chocolate cream
If I blink they’ve gone gray
A fleeting winter dream.
Winter glows in photos
Safe in smart phone screens.
Traversing on the ice will let me
Know just what it means.
And winter glows in photos
Safe in smart phone screens.
Traversing on the ice will let me
Know just what it means.
Always good to come in winter first
You see a winter city at its worst.
Frozen cities aren’t a friend to the old.
Bundle up before you brave the cold.
No one wants to slip and fall in snow.
It’s so much trouble finding will to go.
So much trouble finding will to go.

Oh, the keyboards, so very nice. And your voice is always so sweet. I particularly like the line, "the roofs look pretty / Like white-chocolate cream". I wish I could enjoy the winter like I did when I was much younger!

@gmcgath I went and uploaded to the file hosting for FAWMers now. Initially I had not yet purchased file hosting here. You should be able to listen if you want without having to click on a link taking you to Soundcloud.

Hi, Mary! Just spotted you on FAWM!
Right now I'm seeing a "security issue" flag on the audio, unfortunately.

Very true, and yes, Columbus is crap in the winter, lol. This has your signature jazzy elements, but a bit toned down - and I appreciate the softer quality of the keyboard sounds and your voice. Very appropriate for winter. So good to hear you again.

Very creative and hook-filled melody! Some of the keyboard sounds are definitely wintry if that was your goal!

ugh that VOICE!!! you sound so good in this recording, clear and lovely (and i've also just really missed you and your music). i'm straight-up grooving along to this on the couch right now, head bob and all :)

Groovin' bass-driven music!
You've captured the 'wonder of winter' with realistic eyes!
