The 'boat name' grabbed me as soon as I saw it, but it took until this afternoon to put anything down - a quick write/record.
Capo-ed on fret 3 for that challenge, too!
Molly Bloom
Molly is beautiful, everyone agrees
But too quiet and shy it appears
Talking so quietly, she can barely be heard
Loneliness is what Molly prefers
Chestnut curls hiding her face
Hazel eyes that won’t meet a gaze
She’s worked at the flower shop for many a year
And she never let’s anyone draw near
They call her Molly Bloom
The prettiest flower in the room
But when the sun goes down
There’s no one around
To love poor Molly Bloom
She dresses in an old-fashioned style
Only her blossoms can make her smile
She is perfectly content, or so it seems
But no one knows of her dreams
They call her Molly Bloom
The prettiest flower in the room
But when the sun goes down
There’s no one around
To love poor Molly Bloom
When the carnations glow
And the roses show
That they’re the most beautiful under the moon
The daisies and lilies
Think all the flowers are silly
Because none are beautiful as Molly Bloom
They call her Molly Bloom
The prettiest flower in the room
But when the sun goes down
There’s no one around
To love poor Molly Bloom
Molly is beautiful, everyone agrees
But too quiet and shy it appears
Chestnut curls hiding her face
Hazel eyes that won’t meet a gaze

Lovely images in the song, it's modern and timeless both. The chorus as others have said is so uplifting and beautiful.
It's interesting how it is also both modern and traditional to suppose that the Molly Blooms of the world need a love that the rest of us can lay eyes on, isn't it? I think that's one of the things that makes this song so connecting for us as listeners.

I like your melody. Your chorus especially. It's lovely. The guitar is really nice too. I enjoyed this song a lot.

I have a copy of Ulysses by my side. Great inspiration.

James Joyce would be proud. I like the way this one hovers inside a beautiful melancholy. It evokes a dusty out of the way flower shop with a lovely shy woman at the counter.

Sounds like a classic to me...has all the traits of one...excellent!

You paint a beautiful picture of molly, in all its bittersweetness. I like the double flower meanings throughout (including the idea of no one around when the sun goes down).
@scubed Feb 2022
You’ve painted a vivid lyrical portrait, and the musical setting is lovely. I really like the guitar - the combination of strong downbeat and picking gives the song a gentle energy that keeps it moving. Harmonies sound great!

Mike, I like the story here, and the easy sound. My favorite lines were: "The daisies and lilies/Think all the flowers are silly/Because none are beautiful as Molly Bloom." Clever!

Vivid character, and pretty song. Brought to mind Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, particularly vocally. Very nicely done.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Nice write, and a wonderful story: what fun to personify the flowers to capture their opinion!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Great chorus, really strong delivery, and as others have said, so vivid storytelling. Good job.
@andrea Feb 2022
This is awesome. You paint such a vivid picture I feel like I know your character. The guitar is just lovely. I love it!
@wurzelfrau Feb 2022
This tells such a wonderful story. I really loves the imagery. Very well done!

I absolutely love this! My daughter's name is Molly. She happens to be shy and quiet with hazel eyes!! Loving the analogies of flowers blossoming much like a reserved person does in the right environment. Solid songwriting here!

Mike, this really paints the picture nicely. Love the harms on the chorus and the deft picking. Axe sounds great!
@liz561 Feb 2022
Nice vocals with the harmony, but I especially enjoyed the strum/picking pattern of the guitar.
@mrblitz000 Feb 2022
maybe it's not an exact correlation, but i kind of get jim croce vibes here. maybe the real comparison is in the great performance.
@markg Feb 2022
You presented a portrait of the character, complex and direct, in such a clear and concise way. Beautiful, shy, soft spoken, a bit unknown and mysterious, old fashioned. I can almost see her.
And you achieved it in much fewer words than James Joyce did in Ulysses.
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
I really like the chorus melody, I think it matches the idea you had for the story. I like that she is "bloom" and works with flowers., that is a clever idea. Thanks for taking the Boat Names Challenge!
@jessi14 Feb 2022
I really love the guitar part! The song has a very relaxing vibe!
