Bleurghhhhh not a great start to FAWM boooo :(
Had a super busy week, snotty toddler and covid ridden daycare = a few snatched hours whist she slept to get this vague sketch out.
I would love to polish this poo but feeling so behind so putting up some dodginess here in order to move on :)
I love an Irish podcaster Blindboy. This song is mainly inspired by his discussion of ancient fables relating to modern-day vanities particularly in regard to social media and the effect on young women's mental health/body image.
I dread that days my lil bubba confronts all that as she will..... Also some vague concepts of Buddhist not being your body/mind etc
Anyway a very glib summation of all that (I think covid has ravaged my brain and hence some very simple lyrics - the other day I forgot the word for celery at the supermarket yikes...)
I hope that you end up ordinary
kindness and contentment be enough
all the permuatations luminaries
drops of consciousness contained to cups
hope you keep your eyes
wider than a size
don't compare and circle to a square
why count stars?
spectacular
you are, you are
You're more than your mind
human form combined
I know I've been that low
I know know I've flown so-low
Why count stars
spectacular
you are, you are

This is very cool for a sketch. Your voice is as always amazing! I can hear 10 different directions you could go. The end is super cool on the piano.
@sherrycanary Feb 2022
The harmonies are spectacular!
Some lovely sentiments
@kendrakinsey Feb 2022
Oh so beautiful!! I love the sentiment and your melodies and changes are so lovely. Ooh and harmonies too.
@tangle Feb 2022
This is so touching and it's wonderful to hear your voice again. Some parts of the melody reminded me of if Tori Amos and Melora Creager (Rasputina) had a lovechild and they're two of my favorites. Love and relate to these intentions for your little one. <3
@loveonamixtape Feb 2022
Oooh, love the harmony layers in this and the interesting melodic turns. Love the sentiment in the lyrics, too -- relate very much to this, as a new mom to a little girl. The piano after the "you're more than your mind" bit is really cool, too.
@kadmad202 Feb 2022
Oh my. I have nothing to add that hasn’t already been said except yes to all of it and then some. Beautiful!
@leepat Feb 2022
love the drops&cups and circle&square ideas. it's alright to be ornery at the feet your spectacular runs :) soldier on!
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
This is wonderful, the stripped back piano and vocals are a treat, and I love the extra vocal harmony stuff, particularly the build of "why count stars" and the cascading vocals on "spectacular". This is lovely
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Ah, that's the stuff. Welcome back, fawmstar. Love how your melodies and harmonies tend to bend unexpectedly, but never in a forced way - like it's just how your brain naturally works. And a chorus of falling star Susies at the end. Beautiful.
@owl Feb 2022
Those vocals are so lovely (spectacular!) and I love the idea of the hope for the ordinary—seems like the truest blessing a mother could wish for. Gorgeous song, I hope you feel better soon and make more!
@adforperu Feb 2022
There's nothing that sounds like SB! Some twisted chord progressions here, but they all work so well. The dynamic work on the piano is really cool (though I'd say overall it's maybe a bit quiet earlier in the track?). I always fawn over your soaring vocals, but your (really!) low register stuff here is such a delight. And maaaaan, the control on those descending vocal lines.. *chef's kiss*
@shortdan Feb 2022
Lovely to hear you again Susy :) I did my last track solely during naps too!
This is really lovely. The vocal layering is stunning, as ever. The melody is really compelling too. I suspect we're all going to like this a lot more than you do! Ha!
@pantsofdeath Feb 2022
Wow, your voice! Brilliant.
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Yeah! This is rich, complex, and heartfelt. Really beautiful and somehow manages to be one piece, as it has so many twists and turns! So nice to hear your music again!
@inkflow Feb 2022
*shoots downloaded track straight into arm* THAT'S the stuff!
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022
Well damn, you managed to do this in between toddler naps? That’s pretty damn impressive. I love that harmony bit leading into the piano. Great work. Happy to hear you again this year.
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
So happy to hear new music from you! I love how you've only had a few hours, so could only manage to record something amazing that sounds like it wouldn't be out of place on Surf's Up! Your voice sounds incredible especially when you slide up into the higher register. Such stunning harmonies and that chorus is <chef's kiss> to my ears.
@judypie Feb 2022
Here she is!
Hope you’re all doing ok down there!
If this is an unpolished poo then.. we’ll I don’t want a polished one!
So good to have you in my ears again <3
@zecoop Feb 2022
Oohhhhhhhhhhhh..... it is so good to hear you again here. incredible and spectacular indeed. Sorry for the fog and life complications, but you are doing an amazing job with your little, I am sure. Thank you for the inspiration discussion - there are so many ways to mess up beautiful human minds with expectations and pressure. This song is a gift. Thank you for sharing. It was gorgeous!
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Ooo you are a one aren't you. Firstly you should be so proud of your outlook on life and the fact the dangers of social media etc are in your mindwhilst your kid is still pooping around the place shows what a beautiful soul you are. Second, HOLY CRAP what an amazing piece of music. Is there a way you can add "chord progressions and harmonies that would make brian wilson jealous . and then how you make the music follow the lyrics with the i know i've been that low section. Ok i can't type anymore its midnight and i'm going to bed with suzie filled harmony bliss in my one good ear ;-) x
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Bloomin love your vocal. So happy you are back. Just gorgeous.
@petemurphy Feb 2022
I always look forward to new music from you.
We've been listening to CD's of your songs in the car again lately (we often do). I was out on my own the other day, and and when I got home I walked into the house, looked at my wife, shook my head in amazement... she said "what?".... I just said "Susy Blue"... and she replied "yeah, I know".
Amazing.
@popmythology Feb 2022
Awww, s**t, it's one of my favorite FAWMers of all time!! Hi, Susy, long time no see, I've been away from the last few FAWMs because of, well, 2020-2021 and life and all that. Anyway, great to see that you're still active here. Your music is shimmering and radiant as always. I especially loved the second half of this song. I'll be back for more.
