Feb 2022 alternative the candle chord lyrics singing live-to-tape jeskola buzz
Another Bread Tag song…
Well, I'm glad my Muse let me put this one together. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. It's still pretty raw & there's a few things I might change if I were to re-record it, but I do like how it turned out, despite its defects. But it's FAWM, I'm not gonna get hung up on little details.
This sort of started out because of a comment from @kanttila on my Depths Of Incision (https://fawm.org/songs/127389/). He talked about an Em7 arpeggio that hits near the end of the tune, how this was " the classic Candle chord" & how "If someone else played it I would think of your music." It made me laugh at first, but then I got to thinking, yeah. Em7 shows up a lot in my music.
So I set out to write a song this morning built around Em7, but avoiding my goto Chord Progression of Am-F-G. G ended up in the chorus, but I'm ok with that 'cos Am & F are nowhere near this song (for once). I'm quite pleased with the result, especially the lead guitar playing for the solo & the outro.
The lyrics, on the other hand, were written on February 1st on some scraps of paper while I was at work. I was fooling around with the chords and decided to pull them out & see if they'd work. I had this outro written in the lyrics that didn't make the cut, but the three verses & the chorus worked really well. So yeah, this was an interesting beast, all around.
On to the next…

============
Two down, four to go
A dark hallway
Of what is known
To face the past
To know thyself
Then the soul shall pass
Introspective delights
Self-conscious in the night
Yet the song remains the same
Memories buried deep
Trauma hidden now
Seeing them makes you weep
Face the fear
Know the chains
That hold you so near
Drowning in possibilities
The angst raises up
Devouring your capabilities
Face the pain
Know it must be done
To step out of the rain

Gotta love the title. As an Am-Em-Dm guy I sort of have a "Well find me some better chords and I'll use those!" approach.
The guitar from 2:30 makes the brain buzz delightfully.
And the vox! Coated in a vintage rub out of time.

Cool, dreamy, spacey. A fellow FAWMer recommended I check out your sound and it was a solid recommend: Good vibe! :-)
@iwilleatyou Feb 2022
Heck this would sound fine without any beats! Love the chords!

I used to always call that the Alice in Chains chord, but I've changed my thinking on that the last few years as well. It's a Candle Chord™ now.
Introspective delights
Self-conscious in the night
Yet the song remains the same
This is excellent! as it all is, but that really stood out along with
Know the chains
That hold you so near
All great stuff!
This is a really pleasing listen, I loved it from the start, but it kept growing on me as well... that outro is wonderful!
Oh and I was just talking about your Space Rock stuff from 50/90 this summer, did you ever put that up on bandcamp? or elsewhere? I didn't see it, but may have overlooked it.
Green breadtag for the win for sure!

I dig this, real good lyrics and the drums give a cool pace to that nice jangly rhythm guitar, and the solo is great!
@heliosonorous Feb 2022
This has a nice sound to it, the guitar and drums go well together and it lends itself to an introspective sound with the lyrics.
@kanttila Feb 2022
Haha, awesome. Putting that Classic Candle Chord™ to glorious use. Great guitar here, cuts through. The G in the chorus really helps to raise the music at that part. Nice tune and, an interesting drum beat that sits below it all.

Great rough, gnarly, but melodic guitar sound. I like the mix of wild fuzz and harmonies fighting. and both winning.
@sirius Feb 2022
Beautiful chord progression, you've put me in a delightful contemplative mood. I like the little touch of wistfulness in the harmonies, and the softness of the vocals.
The guitar solo starting around 2:30 is great, I love it!

Your bread tag songs are a wonder… this is a really strong piece. Would love to hear the lyrics up front a little more because they’re a sort of hidden showpiece of the song itself. I love the grindy grungy shoegaze quality a lot… I love the hauntingly beautiful guitar-work on the lead-out… it feels like coming home at the end of a tiring journey…
@xfloorpunchx Feb 2022
I can feel a lo-fi shoegaze touch in your song. I love all these layers combine themself during the progression of the song. Perfectly imperfect!
@theodamus Feb 2022
I really like this! Such a cool process, and a hypnotic result. Nice to recognise your habits and embrace and extend them at once. Guitar solos are beautiful. Nice work!
