Feb 2022 pagan acoustic-one-take baritone-uke past-life-dreams
Another song in my Past Life Dreams series. This one is based on a past life regression where I was a homeless girl in ancient Pompeii. Something that validated this life for me is that I vividly saw an Isis statue nearly identical to this one (but smaller and cruder). I had no idea at the time that Isis was not only worshipped in parts of the ancient Roman empire, but that one of their only temples to her was in Pompeii.
I wish I had time to do better production, but here’s a rough take!
Everything falls down in Pompeii
Trust me-- this all will go up in flames
That mountain above you is the only thing I promise you will stay
Pray to the goddess she will keep you safe
I'm just called Puella on the streets
Ma only carried what she could keep
A moon-crowned Isis statue and a fluted glass so green
These were her treasured things
Slept under Jupiter's eye
He was my father and Isis was my
Mother when my mother fell down in the street
I still remember what she said to me
Everything falls in Pompeii
Trust me-- this all will go up in flames
That moon above us is the only thing I promise you will stay
Pray to the goddess she will keep you safe
I go to the market every day
There's a rich lady who gives me pay
Little gold coins and her slave looks at me in a certain way
Made a home out of a stable long left
A niche for Mater's treasured objects
Left them behind when the slave man and I were wed
But I didn't like the marriage bed
When I came back
To my little shack
The walls had fallen in
I found the green glass
But Isis was cracked
And crumbled in my hands
Everything falls down in Pompeii
Trust me-- this will all go up in flames
That Earth below us is the only thing I promise you will stay
Pray to the goddess she will keep you safe
Cuz everything falls down
The moon's the only unbreakable crown
Your goddess-given self's the only person who will stay
If you fight to keep her safe
I sleep under Jupiter's eye
Beg by day, don't let that green glass out of my sight
My husband walked by in his brown toga-- his lip curled
But I'm the free one in this world
When all is nothing
I am still something
I'm still that big-haired kid
When I had nothing
I wasn't wanting
I had just what I needed
Exploring an abandoned shed
An arch stone fell down and hit my head
The goddess made my fate mercifully quick
The ash fell centuries after I did
Everything falls down in Pompeii
Trust me-- this all will go up in flames
That mountain above us is the only thing I promise you will stay
Pray to the goddess she will keep you safe, keep you safe
Pray to the goddess she will keep you safe

Absolutely delightful! "But I'm the free one in this world" - brilliant line. I'm going to have to send this to a friend who has her PhD in History focused on Roman history, and has done a lot of work at Pompeii.

That is an incredibly detailed past life regression memory. Really interesting. Really catchy chorus too.
Any interest in Delores Cannon?
