Had quite some insomnia last night due to adjusting my Thyroid medication. Today was quite a stormy day so no field recording outside. Figured I would take a rest day. In the end I got this little choral melody stuck in my head and figured I would do a little vocal stacking session.
It's a song about someone I lost a few years ago. And about coming to terms with dying myself at some point too. A bit of an ashes to ashes, dust to dust kind of approach which is quite hopeful to my ears. Took inspiration from the forget-me-not flower and a final return to nature.
The clock recording is from my grandfather's old school that my dad inherited (gramps was a clock-hobbyist).
And yes, if my songs keep getting shorter at this pace song 14 will be ten seconds.
Hij ziet de zon door de wolken
En strijkt neer in het lange gras
Alleen vandaag, nooit meer morgen
Hij vergeet, alles wat hij was
"Vergeet me niet, vergeet me niet"
Onder de aarde verhuld, vergeet hem niet
Want al dat gras wat hier bloeit
De boom die hier groeit
Dat is hij altijd al geweest
(Translation)
He sees the sun through the clouds
And settles in the tall grass
Just for today, tomorrow nevermore
He forgets everything he was
"Forget me not, forget me not"
Concealed under the earth, don't forget him.
The grass that sprouts here
The tree that grows here
Has always been him

OOH
The opening harms... I jumped completely underwater immediately.
this song is...magic.
I think I held my breath without realizing it...

Short, but so powerful. I love hearing you sing in dutch. Its similar enough to german to understand some of the words without reading the translation. Beautiful words for your lost one. I could listen to this for hours (probably will)...

I really like the ticking in this track and then the beautiful layered vocals that come in ! I'm wondering what that constant note is, maybe a vocal part being repeated? really lovely :-)

Thank you for your comments on my track @notenkraker ! and for introducing me to the idea of 'slothcore' !! I've never hear of that and I love it !! :-)

What a lovely way to remember someone.
After I did a trustfall into your vocals, I never wanted it to stop. Definitely needs a longer version, maybe later, when you find the time and energy.
Last, but not least: the clock fits the theme very well.
