Recorded that intro guitar with an SM57 in front of my Peavey Classic 30. I decided it sounded rubbish, did everything else line-in, then half way through the mix thought 'hang on, it sounds fine??'. Oh well.
This was inspired by that excellent YouTube video of that chap shouting at a car full of people, saying stuff like "I want you to die!" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G971UwCV9-g
I’ve got a thought and it’s bubbling up
but you,
can you feel it?
it’s enough to torch the earth
it’s cyclical, to you it is biblical
do your breathing
count to a trillion
water trickling up hill
can you swim in it?
it’s enough to flood the earth
I've got a thought
it’s not scratching at the itch
and nothing else will fit in
this time it’ll be al-
this time…? (oh, come on)
calm down
@balancelost Mar 2022
Jazz metal yeah! This is like Norah Jones jamming with Black Sabbath. Pretty much don't need to say more than that.
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
The contrast between mellow and aggressive in this song is so, so good. Love that little e-piano bit!
@nuchoyce Feb 2022
Man you are really taking us on a journey with this one! It’s wild that you have like 3 different Vibez working in one song. Your musicality is insane man.
@hbusse Feb 2022
Whoa, at the moment when it comes in big and metal… thinking, WHAT kind of scale amazingness is that?! It rocked my face off. Makes me feel so many things as the angry section keeps encroaching on the pleasantness and eventually takes over.
@hanley Feb 2022
Smack bang, that it one ferocious track!
So many great moments and tones, nice jazzy 7th chords to lead us into a false sense of ballad-ness before that punch in the face (and ears). Those hooks (and their iterations) are sick, very head bang worthy.
Never a dull moment really!
@jbp123 Feb 2022
Love how the anger keeps forcing its way in, and both the calm and crazy parts were really cool. This is effing bananas =D but I'm down
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
I do like it when you get cross, but then I'm safe here inside my car. Those hulk out bits are massive and bloody lovely. That little itchy bit of guitar coming up on the scratch line - perfect. Great crooning on the smooth jazz bits too. 10/10 would ram you in traffic.
@tangle Feb 2022
HOLY shit yes. I'm not really surprised because everything you make is amazing but this blew my mind. Definitely getting Mr. Bungle vibes in the croony bits and you mashed up so many styles seamlessly. Inspired! I know I'm going to be screaming the end along to this next time I get a solo drive in the car.
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022
cool jazzy chords, love the far off synth in the background, its the best accompaniment to your vocals. OOOH. then it does THAT. sweet. love the breakdown here and how it just switches back into that jazzy bit. I dont even have a comparison to compare this to, its so youuuuuu. Great stuff.
@debrandio Feb 2022
The transitions are to trample under the hooves of a horse only to catch up with or overtake by riding
@ericlord Feb 2022
Dude what the hell haha your songs are really high quality. You got enough comments to know this but yeah it's worth repeating.
Interesting, surprising, catchy... what a ride!!
@leepat Feb 2022
what's that scale? ah, YOUR scale. I C
loads of fun across the spectrum here! you obviously can't fit in your own box ;)
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
Oh a ton of great cop chords in this. This went on a huge musical odyssey. Despite that, the whole thing is mixed so well that the changes are so smooth. Even with all the fuzziness. The vocals are stunning
@badgag Feb 2022
Wow, just wow! love the contrast in this. It's like two completely different songs being mixed together. LOVE it
@scottlake Feb 2022
Did NOT expect the Rhodes-y EP to show up, but that was a nice taste of sweet in there amongst the spicy sometimes King Crimsony stuff
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
Cheers, ears crying. The way the noisy stuff slams into the song is wonderful - hope you won't mind this comparison too much but reminds me a little of Pretty Visitors by Arctic Monkeys off their one good album. Love the musak interlude (finally earning yourself that tag). Love the super distorted CAAAAALLLLM DOOOOOOOOOWNs at the end. Fabulous
@owl Feb 2022
Ha! Oh man this has so many well done shifts and twists and turns, I feel like I’ll get whiplash. Those metal riffs are so heavy and swaggery, it’s great. So good!
@dock Feb 2022
You've captured the contrast in society perfectly. dreamers and haters What a world!
@ampersandman Feb 2022
How good is that. Needless to list all the things I love about this tune, because it’s, well, just everything.
@seemanski Feb 2022
This is a bit good, loved the fuzz guitars, especially at the end when the flutter in and out. I had to double back at around the 30 seconds mark because for a brief moment I thought I was listening to Mike Patton then it switched back to your singing style.
@atam94 Feb 2022
Awesome song! I particularly loved the shift in mood with the heavier instrumental breaks.
@fonte Feb 2022
Totally grabbed me from the get go. Lovely guitar tone. Killer melody! That falsetto is awesome. Then we hit the fuzz pedal and off we go! Seriously sounds like a band.
@hamiltonpoolhall Feb 2022
Ahh, falsetto, heavenly choirs, cool clean guitars, what a setup for the raging prog riffage, and that’s some glorious electric piano, too. There’s nothing better than creativity and fun executed at this high a level…
@susyblue Feb 2022
Heheh you certainly never will be bored with your tunes - love those menacing fuzz sections then some sweeeeeeet layers and harmonies. Ooh the 3/4 section and screaming 'calm down' I hope that felt cathartic I wanna do it! (Ps ridiculously good as usual_)
@halfwayhome Feb 2022
I had a recommendation (from someone in the real world believe it or not!) to make sure I check out your work. Thank Crimbo! Just in time for this masterpiece! I love a few musical surprises, bit of genre mixing, plenty of fun for musos to get very excited about basically! It should come as no surprise then that I put this up with the very best from Mr Bungle, which, I hope, is a massive complement.
Stunning voice, up front, and in the back.
Awesome through and through.
Rant over.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Mate you are a guitar whizz. Bored of saying how much i adore your vocals so last time i saying that. So wooosh what the dickens is such a brilliantly dirty riff doing being able to seemlessly flow into the verse again. i actually think this is my fav of your three so far. I just want to mosh, then chill, mosh then chill. That sums me up ;-)
@jdschramm Feb 2022
Not sure what to say that this is great. Definitely like the feel changes, reminds me of something Faith No More would have done.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
straight out the blocks. it has such an easy feel about it then wham from nowhere! are you sitting comfortable then i will change! very compelling song
@doeeyes Feb 2022
You're Rumpus now?! This is bloody brilliant haha I love it
@bigmood Feb 2022
Ooof, this is such a nice chord progression, I love the jazz voicings into the heavy guitar tone and right back. And your melody, those harmonies!! It's so good!
@johncrossman Feb 2022
Soaring, nice. Then rock, yeah. I'm liking the mood swings a ton, and the lounginess in the third section. I don't really know what's going on in the angry bits, but it also sounds like what anger might sound like in my head (or yours?). Its a song to be experienced, cool, keeps me from getting too comfortable. And my opinion carries extra weight, cuz I'm perpetually cross since birth. I endorse this bipolar tune.
@jackdawfactories Feb 2022
Hell! YES!
@ddd Feb 2022
Guitar masterclass on this one. Really impressive. They keys are a lovely interlude too. Sounds so polished, must have taken ages.
Enjoyed the video too!
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
That guitar sounds great! I like how the stretched out feel of the verse line(s). Oof and then it gets a bit huge. And then jazzy. Must stop live-commentry. Your high vocals are always peachyyy.
@shortdan Feb 2022
Loving all the contrasting textures in this one. The jazzy, soulful vocal melody is massively my bag. Got particularly excited by the switch to the super jazzy section with the Rhodes solo. Hell yeah! Great vocal harmonies as per usual. Another really creative piece - excellent :)
@judypie Feb 2022
LOVE the Mr bungle into Muzak transition! Stupendous. Here’s Mr B again, awesomely mental, love ittttt. Hahaha just heard the oh come on, I thought that was a genuine oh come on when I heard you shout it earlier, like something had broken! Calm dowwwwnnn is wild, I DID NOT hear you recording that part! I mustve been out. Bet our neighbours did though! Love this!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Hi Adam.
*pushes glasses up face*
I only clicked on this because of the "muzak" tag, and I think I did find a little bit in the middle, but what's the deal with all the exciting fuzzy riffs either side of it? You'll do me an injury.
Best regards,
Vom
@sw1n3flu Feb 2022
muzakkkk this is not.
classic adforperu fawm-good/madness on the other hand... yes! The intensity at 2:00 and the return to the "peace" are of course the dynamics that float my boat. Ass-kicker of a track right the way to the end.
