Feb 2022 guy-with-piano ballad love-song missed opportunities body part
Had this title in the back of my mind for a long time. Nice to suddenly attach it to something.
I've been very much inspired by the lovely instrumentals of Nadia Cripps aka @musicsongwriter this week and I think she bears some responsibility for this effort coming along. Thanks Nadia :)
THE GIRL WITH THE SUMMER IN HER HAIR
Memory threads unweaving, just as the birds are leaving
A Polaroid of old friends, with all the time to burn
The love of the deep admission, careless in our transmission
Cigarettes and biscuits, and the hours to waste on why
Back when we laughed so easy, I couldn’t deal the feeling
Standing at the crossroads, wish someone let me know
To hell with the easy option, the solace of long forgotten
I didn’t let it define me, and I tell that mirror so
I swear it doesn’t pay to remember
That day in late September
When I said goodbye, pretending not to care
She smiled, turned her head and left forever
The girl with the summer in her hair

"Back when we laughed so easy" is such a bittersweet line. Really beautiful song, I love your voice against the piano.

I can see why this is a favourite piano piece. Excellent work, Andy. This is the instrument that allows you to really explore those emotions. Not just in your brilliant lyrics, but your increasing mastery of the use of an instrument more emotionally easy to control (or let control you) than the guitar is. Well done.

Thia is so atmospheric. Lovely chord progressions. Another Grifriths triumph

Boy, you're getting pretty good at tickling those keys. Lovely song, Andy. Love those chord choices.

Sweet and poignant, and really well written! I do hear the echo of Nadia’s lovely melodies floating through this beautiful song.

Really gorgeous piano playing Andy!! Really powerful imagery here. This is a bit lovely and a bit sad. Emotive vocal of loveliness.
