Feb 2022 country dust country-folk
Here's my take on Liz's lyrics. I had a lot of fun with this one.
Liz Says: Wow! Tara really captures a wonderful country feel with her amazing vocals and harmonies as she brought this lyric to life! I am so grateful for her musical magic and generosity!
Dust
V1
it has been eight years
but it seems like more
you never looked back as
you walked out the door
you left me hostage to
thoughts I couldn’t ignore
my heart left aching for
the one I adored
PC
but as time passes
longings are killed
and the dust builds
C
dust covers sweet kisses
that we once knew
dust fills my heart sometimes
I wish it weren’t true
dust grows on the love
that we once knew
dust buries the feelings
I had for you
V2
today words in your letter
took me by surprise
knowing you’ve missed me
brought a tear to my eye
I could dust off my heart
bring love back to life
but I’ve grown content
with the dust inside
PC
cuz as time passes
longings are killed
and the dust builds
C
dust covers sweet kisses
that we once knew
dust fills my heart sometimes
I wish it weren’t true
dust grows on the love
that we once knew
dust buries the feelings
I had for you
B
I don’t need a dust mop
I don’t need a dust pan
I don’t need dust feathers
nor a dust covered man
Final PC
cuz as time passes
longings are killed
I’ll let dust build
C
dust covers sweet kisses
that we once knew
dust fills my heart sometimes
I wish it weren’t true
dust grows on the love
that we once knew
dust buries the feelings
I had for you

Another fine arrangement of these lyrics. Goes to show how good these lyrics that they can be arranged in two completely different ways and both versions are cracking good songs.
@eargoggle Mar 2022
wow, this is super interesting listening to two versions of these same lyrics back to back...they're totally different songs from these interpretations. This one is more laid back and considered-feeling somehow...the other one has a momentum tht just barrels through. I love these harmonies on the chorus...somehow this one seems so accepting of dust, which is unexpected and cool.
@tunecat Mar 2022
Such a poignant lyric. I lobe the multiple repetitions of the word dust . This setting is powerful and seems to really bring out the lyric. Excellent work you two
@gardeningangel1 Mar 2022
This is one of those songs that really jumps out. Every element is superb- fantastic lyrics, delicious harmonies, and a country-blues feel that makes it so easy to feel good about feeling bad.
@daveyboy103 Feb 2022
Very nice interpretation of the words. Great collab
@andrea Feb 2022
This is a killer song. These lyrics are superb. The vocals and music really bring out the emotions in the lyrics. Well done. Amazing collab!
@raspberry33 Feb 2022
Nicely done. Love the vocals and harmonies. I would have played this back when I was disc jockey at WLLN (and back when they were a country station!)
@bithprod Feb 2022
Masterpiece! An old-timey feel, real emotion, great harmonies... perfect treatment of these great lyrics. Back in the day, this would have been a hit... and still should be. But what do I know.
@kadmad202 Feb 2022
Oh yeah. This is an angst-ridden, raw, and battle-worn offering in the best country tradition. Such a great job lyrically and musically - a perfect blending! Wonderfully weary delivery, and I love what you did with the bridge. We’ll done!
@abudabard12514 Feb 2022
That is so dusty. Dang. That's a mighty strong chorus you got there. Got me cryin' in my beer at the end of the ole honky tonk bar, I tell ya h'what.
@bethkille Feb 2022
Great collab!!!! Great lyric,. Great delivery. Great harmonies. Makes me want to slow dance in a saloon. Well done friends!!
@ballyhoot Feb 2022
Good well-written lyrics. Nice use of repetition with the word "dust." And those vocals. Beautiful, esp. when that harmony kicks in. That chorus is just fantastic.
@the3queens Feb 2022
WOW! This is great! Liz's lyrics, your voice and music are the perfect combination. I agree with @popmythology we should be hearing this on the radio.
@popmythology Feb 2022
Why is this not on the Top 40 charts?! No, wait, I know why, because it's BETTER than most of what's on the Top 40 charts!!! This is definitely going to be one of my repeat listens this year. Lovely, lovely.
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
Oh yeah! Vocals are amazing and the lyrics are so spot on! Melody reminds me of “Tennessee Whisky.” Love this!!!
@brigetboyle Feb 2022
Beautiful! Nice interpretation of these lyrics. The harmony sounds great. Nice to see you in FAWM again
@kristi Feb 2022
What a soulful take on these lyrics. It's amazing how you can build on one word to create a meaningful, emotional story. It's all very relatable. I like how the person grows and builds strength/independence over time. Lovely harmonies and gentle melody.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
I was gripped from the first line, and it just grew when the harmonies came in. Such a feeling and @taracraig really caught @kahlo2013's always great lyrics. Love how the dust metaphor goes through all different permutations. Nice collab!
@nicetrip Feb 2022
So soulful and warm feeling. Liked how instrumental and double vocal work together!
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
I feel the patience turned to weariness at the outset of this music. The sweetness of the music brings out the element of hope.
@nadine Feb 2022
Great lyrics. And the way how these were turned into a 6/8 country ballad is awesome. Great phrasing and layering. I usually don't listen to this music but you both captured me.
@max Feb 2022
Ah! Double collab, two takes on the same lyrics. Really nice to hear both different versions. Great job, all of you.
@shallowcarrot Feb 2022
Love the arrangement, and the harmonies :)
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Wow what a great version of Liz lyrics. Great vocal! I love this!
