Feb 2022 social commentary ska the jelly factory
Curious little mix. I had contacted @gm7 to see if he'd be interested in adding some guitar flourishes to this jelly. His stems then inspired me to do something else with them but not before adding them at the bridge of this tune. Thanks, Gary!
It is an observation about people who less fortunate than most. However, it's not to be seen as a one-sided issue. A friend of mine frequently says to me, "no matter how flat a pancake, there will always be two sides."
Aaaaaand I managed to slip a French horn in here, too!
As always, thank you in advance for listening. Please enjoy the jelly.
Garry: CTS it was fun and great to collab with you. I just added a little spice to the bridge but CTS did all the heavy lifting. BTW those lyrics are freakin' awesome. Cheers to ya!! If I have enough $ to buy beer..lol
There never seems 2 B enough money in his wallet
2 buy a burger and a pint of beer
He never seems 2 have a sense 4 bad timing
And that is why nobody ever comes near
Back 2 the wall
Hands 2 the grind
Eyes on the prize and survive
There never seems 2 B enough sympathy about him
2 make U wanna lend a stranger your ear
There never seems 2 B a noble air around him
A cloud of doubt is his only atmosphere
Go with the flow
Wipe your nose
Where it all goes
Nobody knows
SOLO (French horn)
Chicken pot pie
Ham on rye
Sunny-side up
Lemon pie
Bridge over head
Roads 2 go
Train track path
But you lost your map
There never seems 2 B enough time 2 think about him
The kind of person who is always in the rear
It seems the only time his kind would really matter
Is when it seems his kind is someone 2 fear
Back 2 the wall
Hands 2 the grind
Eyes on the prize and survive
2022 The Jelly Factory!
@juoppis Mar 2022
Oh, this is funky! Especially love the RHCP style "choruses".
The lyrics paint a recognizable picture.
@tunecat Feb 2022
Great!!
@jyllian Feb 2022
I absolutely love this! Imthink i have visited songs by the Jelly Factory in previous years… excellent vibe.
@srcoops Feb 2022
Moves along nicely and the message is good. Nice job!
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
This sounds so fresh! Fun ska rhythm with great guitars and arrangement, and I love those "back 2 the wall" sections.
@writeandwrong Feb 2022
Ohhh this one's gonna stay with me awhile!! "Eyes on the prize and survive..." Indeed!! Nice instrumentation and cool collab! Nice battle of emotions between music and lyrics. It's like a fight song, except it's a survive song! Some need pickles! Some need coffee! Enjoy your pickles, boys! :)
@mal Feb 2022
The lyrics are brilliant and this is a definite earworm. And french horn solo, as well!
@max Feb 2022
What an enjoyable listen! Great collab.
Agree with all comments below.
@djtjb Feb 2022
Damn guys this is amazing. I have to second @jamesstaubes I totally was feeling a Fishbone vibe too. This is just infectious on so many levels. Great job y'all
@yam655 Feb 2022
This was fun, but... Where's the pickles in this song? (I regularly sing songs about pickles.)
I enjoyed the French horn solo. That's an instrument that doesn't show up enough.
@nobodyofficial Feb 2022
The back 2 the wall part with the “heys” is a great contrast to the rest of it. Great upbeat song with a Talking Heads vibe.
@jerrypettit Feb 2022
Great collaboration, guys!
Nice vocal and really great instrumentation from BOTH of you. Superb arrangement and very well-mixed. Interesting lyrics.
Very impressed. Do more together!!
@deena Feb 2022
LOVE the harmony and exuberance in the music paired with the sharp observations in the lyrics. Awesome!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
This is a style I don't think I've heard from you before. But I love it. It's such a feel-good sound! The guitar flourishes are super tasty. This is a great collab! :-)
@mrblitz000 Feb 2022
reminiscent of 80s ska groups? well done. all of the performances are on point.
@cphaurckker Feb 2022
I totally haven't had this running through my mental soundtrack for the last half hour.
Great hook!
@slusk Feb 2022
A mix of The Tubes, Talking Heads, .XTC and some diet. Frank Zappa thrown in for good measure dressed in a ska (not reggae) suit. I like it!
@nancyrost Feb 2022
This reminds me of some of the ska I used to listen to in the late 70s/early 80s, with that particular combination of joyous energy and class-consciousness. Great groove, imagery and guitar solo.
@seemanski Feb 2022
Great fun tune, I enjoyed the jelly very much.
@enzo Feb 2022
love it! Reminds me of some of my favorite Talking Heads songs!
@jamesstaubes Feb 2022
Outstanding! Dig the reggae upbeats on the guitar. That riff on the chorus is so dope, it's a great hook. I kinda get a Fishbone vibe from this tune. I also like songs that just start, like this one. Can't tell if those are live drums are programmed. Either way the drums are great too. Well done.
@fuzzy Feb 2022
Well, as someone who volunteers with people who are homeless, I applaud your lyrics and thematic approach here.
And the music is super sweet, too!
I'm liking the rock/funk/ska mashup.
Yeah, so nice!!
@nadine Feb 2022
What a fun track! Takes me back to the 90s. I never ever expected a horn in this song. Guitars and vocals are super tight. Guess you forgot to tag it with #avatarchallenge cause you both nailed it.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Hey! Hey! This is great! Cool ska mashed with jelly factory feel that works so well! Love the great lyrics and the wonderful melody and spoken vocals. Great instrumental interludes. Brilliant collaboration.
@codeenergy Feb 2022
wow the fun starts at 0:00 haha love no intro just jump into it! @davidtaro nailed it with the word jaunty. This is is so infectious fun sounding. Great job
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Well, this is a jaunty little number! Love the offbeat guitars. Great harmonies running through it all. I like that the lyrics aren’t falling down on one side, there’s real nuance there. And, of course, French horn solo is an inspired choice, never would have thought of that! Like mixing pickles with jelly I guess…. sounds wrong but it’s actually so right :)
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
a lot happenng in that arrangement, and the melody and lyrics on the verses is a gas. love the groove and the voices and all those sweet raspberry seeds sprinkled throughout, getting jellied,
@oswlek Feb 2022
This is a fun one! Somehow the song is loose and spontaneous while being right as hell. Like a band full of seasoned pros just rocking out and having a blast.
I'm not usually partial to "hey" parts, but they totally work here and make me want to write something just to have an excuse to do that myself.
Stellar work all around!
@resonut123 Feb 2022
Jelly-icious!
Cool upbeat groove and strong lyric. I've been Pickled.
Thanks for this Jelly Jam!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
This came out great! Talking heads vibes to me anyways. Great lyrics Garry’s guitar work is immediately recognizable. Loved this one a lot fellas!
@andrea Feb 2022
This makes a Saturday night, winter in NY, during covid much much better! Cool lyrics and bopping good music. Great collab!
@toms Feb 2022
It's ska!!! :) This is awesome. Great choruses.
@blindkiwi Feb 2022
Love the choruses! Reminds me of the lyrical scatting you would hear John Lennon doing in some of the beatles outtakes. All fun fun fun until daddy takes the french horn away :D
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
French Horn solo for the win!!! I LOVE this part!!
Back 2 the wall
Hands 2 the grind
Eyes on the prize and survive! Hey Hey Hey!
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
My mother tried hard to “fix” her less fortunate sister and I used to dream of becoming “rich and famous” and when I did, I would buy her a house. Then my mother told me she’d stopped trying to “fix” her when she realized her sister liked her life. Funny song.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
I'm a fully Jelly convert! How have I lived my life so long without this?!?!?!?!
FAWM needed a french horn break
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Love'n this. gm7, really nice work on the guitar. Dig'n what you've done. CTS, there ain't no other like you! The factory is humming. Great stuff here. Vocal delivery, entertaining words, top shelf production. Profound lyrics. Oh...and that French horn!
@jeustan Feb 2022
This is a seriously great song. George Clinton fights David Byrne but fresher than that sounds. Like, when was the last time you heard a pop groove that championed the worker? I am up out of my chair for this.
@guitarpatz83 Feb 2022
The French horn solo is amazing! This is so much fun, love the contrast between the verses and bridge sections, great guitar work from @gm7. The off beat guitar gives it a lovely ska feel. Brilliant work all round guys
