@stephenwordsmith challenged me to steal this song, so i have. i'm not even going to give him collab credit. unless he asks me to. this is a meta-FAWM song. IYKYK.
i haven't been in a very lyrical mood for the past couple years, so i'll take 'em where i can get 'em. i've been more interested in learning "composing" and "arranging" for multiple monophonic voices, so expect more virtual instrument ensembles this FAWM like the horn section and glockenspiel and such here...
steal this song, i dare ya
pick the meat from off its bones
strike out my name and write yours down
to claim it for your own
please pilfer all the platitudes
and filch the flippant lines
sneak off with the sentiments
there's gold in this here mine
steal this song, i dare ya
devil cares what i've devised
there's nothing new beneath the sun
it's all been plagiarized
a treasure trove if it's
alliteration that you're after
and much to smile about
if you're in the mood for laughter
it's like a sea of simile
a meadow metaphoric
just claim, alas you don't know me
a faceless soul like poor yorick
steal this song, i dare ya
who cares what your mother taught?
it's really rather easier
than having your own thought
just hold tight to the giants
on whose shoulders you have been standing
for if, by this, they slip away...
i wish you happy landings
steal this song, i dare ya
devil cares what i've devised
there's nothing new beneath the sun
it's all been plagiarized
* lyrics not by me. but i'm stealing them anyway.

This is great. Was reading the lyrics on some FAWMer’s page. Can’t remember who it was…However I won’t forget this song and it’s brilliance…
@audrey Mar 2022
Ha ha ha. I really enjoyed this. It has a nice easy groove. Love the virtual horn, and your lyric is priceless, but. . . oh that's right - you stole that. lol. Really well put together and very entertaining.
@mandolinda Mar 2022
Such a fun, tongue in cheek, wink wink song lyric. And mild mannered who wudda thought would steal it, attitude of a song. With permission. Great fun song.
@tunecat Feb 2022
Really great and unexpected setting to these lyrics
@ofishell Feb 2022
Excellent lyrics by @stephenwordsmith, and love the music you have come up with. Your vocals are fantastic, and I really like the chord you hit at the end of the second line of each verse (bones, lines, etc.). An excellent theft!
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
I love the casual vibe. Like you're just hanging out and taking lyrics on five-finger discount and even if they notice, they don't mind, it's that relaxed.
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022
ha, this is great. steal songs, if they're gonna turn out this way. your vocals and melody are great.
@littlespiral Feb 2022
Them horns tho... and the glockenspiel in the bridge! did you record this at Abbey Road or what? Hahaha love it! I may steal this song too... of course with permission... wait... that's not stealing is it?
@unpronounceable Feb 2022
Horns make anything ok. Glockenspiel makes anything loveable. This is sweet and metacurious for me.
@stephenwordsmith Feb 2022
Even if I wasn't in on the joke, I would find it hard to be mad at this. It's so fun, brash and lively that I hardly feel I'm being robbed. The energy is infectious and the rogues gallery of instruments show the teamwork of a musical mafia. My hat goes off to the leader of this band... of outlaws.
You also made my chorus-less lyric feel like it has one, so a credit to you there.
@nicetrip Feb 2022
Wow, sounds so stylish and decent! Successful robbery.
@timfatchen Feb 2022
There's a helluva lot of work in that backing. Not acknowledging the lyricist is indeed in keeping: Lyrical hubris hit by the karma truck.
@judypie Feb 2022
Haha an excellent outcome! Great take :D
@dragondreams Feb 2022
This has got to be the best outcome of an act of thievery I've ever heard! :-D
Awesome work you two - on so many meta levels.
@cts Feb 2022
Alright first off, I'm not afraid to ask: what does IYKYK mean? Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I dig that chorus, Burr. You mentioned your focus will be more on arrangement. I'm taking notes on that chorus. I'm glad that you can admit you jacked @stephenwordsmith's lyrics. That's valuable coin in itself. Great work...song burglar!
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Dagnabbit Burr. You stole this song from @stephenwordsmith before I could steal it from him.
What a fun romp. Those horn fills are awesome. What a classic vibe.
@sheilerk Feb 2022
Wow! After listening to his I double dog dare ya to steal one of mine!!
JK, but this is really really cool!!
@debrandio Feb 2022
That's pretty cool!! A wilco vide. Nothing wrong with plagiarized when literally asked I suppose!
@andygetch Feb 2022
Having followed the inspiration this is priceless!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Love this! I'm sure when @stephenwordsmith wakes up on the other side of the globe he'll notice.
Your voice sounds great and it's hard to go wrong with glockenspiel!
@metalfoot Feb 2022
What a great take on Stephen's lyric. :D Love, love, love.
@jacobeverettwallace Feb 2022
meta fawm culture, indeed! Mr. Wordsmith should feel good about this stolen work of art. Love all the pieces and parts you've added throughout. Love the verse melody in particular! Fun song, well stolen...I mean, done!
@samplebandit Feb 2022
being called 'steal this song', i feel like this tune's calling out to be stolen further by being blatantly sampled >:)))))
loved earing this, soothing banger
