I envision this as the opening track to an album, an invitation to settle in and enjoy the music. Full disclosure: the first two words are the first two words of a Pearl Jam song (Not For You), and there are some rhythmic/melodic similarities. It was one of those "can't unhear it" situations.
Restless soul find shelter here
Lay your burden lay your fear
The storm outside is raging white
Rest your head and dream tonight
Make yourself at home
Before this moment’s gone
You’re not alone
Weary soldier be at ease
Find some solace find some peace
Thought the battle thunders on
May it stay until the morn
(chorus)
Fallen friend take my hand
Promise I can understand
Living how it takes its toll
So I say you’re not alone
(chorus)

Oof, that harmonized vocal bend in the chorus. I'm so goddamn jealous lol
Is this really a single take?

I love this kind of sound, Americana, cool harmonies, tasty guitar. It has a timeless feel about the soldier, could be today or 1863..
