Feb 2022 singer-songwriter acoustic-one-take girl-with-guitar indie-folk lo-fi sad
Still no computer, so here's another one I recorded directly onto my phone into a voice memo app. If you hear crackles and stuff that's why. No effects or anything fancy. Basically, I'm just thinking of it as if we were hanging out in a room playing some tunes, this is what you'd get. :) I'm okay with that.
But I did get the weekly challenge of a body part. Yay.
Interested in what you guys think of that last mini-verse/outro? Leave it in or take it out? I read my husband the lyrics and his face dropped. He said " that's SO SAD."
The color of your eyes
Is the palest shade of blue
And when I look into the sky
Can’t help but think of you
And all the times
We tried to see it through
It’s a different point of view
And that’s a different shade of blue
Blue
Blue
The reflection of my eyes
Is some strange shade of grey
And the storms that brew inside
Can’t find the words to say
I hope you know I tried
To find a way
And though I never was enough…
I’m Blue
Blue
Blue
I’m Blue
Without you
Without you
And when you look into her eyes
I hope you find your truth
I’ll be dying inside
But I swear I’m happy for you

Wow, I love how you sing and play this song. I like that last mini-verse/outro. Your husband's right. It is so sad.
I would love to sit in a room and listen to you play. This recording feels like the next best thing.

Its sounds like you have a great memo app, and even better song. I'm loving the natural feel of this song. You have an amazing voice that truly conveys this story. Without you sounds like the perfect ending. However that last lyric is deep.... You can't go wrong with what you decide!

If I was sitting in a room with you and listening to this song, I would have tears streaming down my face because first..this is a beautifully sad song, second, because the music is beautiful and third because I was sitting in the room with that beautiful voice and beautiful soul and that moment would be just one big chunk of beautiful....sigh...

Beautiful fingerpicking and lovely vocals. I love how the voice and the guitar interact. I also like how you play with time a bit which is one of the great things about one take songs. Beautifully done. I also love how you ended it.

So beautiful, your playing and singing sound amazing and I can’t believe it’s just a one-take phone recording! The lyrics are a nice structure with the parallel/switch from blue to gray. Keep the last part, it’s heartbreaking!

Love it. Yeah keep the ending. I like the way it resolved lyrically but musically not. Another top class song, maybe the phone is all you need when you have talent!

This is really beautiful, I'm stunned that it was a one take straight into a phone mic, it sounds pretty damn good to me.
Nice to hear you are back, now that I've found the bleu member :S, I thought Chris was you because I only got as far as reading the URL on his profile page which had your name on it :P

Another great song that it seems you just knock off waiting for tech support! I like the last verse. It gives the song a little story arc...'oh that's why shes blue'. Musicianship is great too.

This is superb. What a heart breaking song.
A single instrument, a few chords and a beautiful voice is a winning combination for me and will never sound dated. More cluttered arrangements quickly betray their era.
@lanasolyluna Feb 2022
Your voice and guitar are so beautiful that even on phone recordings it comes through. I say, keep the outro! Glad to hear your voice again!
@tseaver Feb 2022
Lovely write! The turns from verse to verse about who gazes into whose eyes carry the song deftly. The understated and soulful performance sets the mood perfectly.
@slawbleu Feb 2022
First things first, keep the outro! I think it's absolutely necessary. The way you sing those lines is just heartbreakingly lovely. I know it's frustrating to have to do this on your phone, but I have to say that I'm also loving these stripped-down, no-effects, no-studio-polish pieces -- they feel very intimate and honest. As always, you rock!!

Your hubs is right, but it's a SO good kind of so sad. There's such a heartfelt undertone to this that really contrasts against the sadness in the lyric. The last line is needed for the story here. It's relatable. You performed this so well I didn't even think that it's actually on a phone. Love the elongated notes in the "blue" tags. Well done, Stacy!

A different shade of @kovbleu ! Sounds great. Solid song, solid performance, no studio magic needed

Ahhh my lovely i am so amazed how you get such a beautiful sound from straight into voice memo app. Wow its like me in thailand but with a whole world of more quality. My second listen of you today and again i am blown away by such melodic beauty and your performance . Woohooo
@jsini Feb 2022
Beautiful
@mikeymason Feb 2022
I read the lyrics before listening--very simple and sparse, and I wasn't sure what I'd think of the song, but your intonation, your scansion and emotion really makes it work. I really dig this.
Well done.

An absolute heartbreaker. And a good try at putting a good face on teh situation, but we all see through her last line... This recorded well, phones work fine where the performer balances instrument and voice.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Ha who cares about a teeny crackle. You nailed it anyway. Reminds me a bit of something fairly recent but i know what oh maybe shallow . Very pretty and sounds great particularly from a phone. Love the quality of the vox.
