Wanted to challenge myself by writing a song in 7/8. (Try to spot the two bars going in 4/4) I initially played all the instruments, but the drums were a bit too much to execute like I wanted so I added a lot in post and quantized the trickiest parts.
Somehow this was easiest song to compose in a while. (Not the easiest to record.) Which baffles my since the song is quite full of tricks and low volume tracks. I always struggle with vocals and lyrics and this time wasn't any different.
Crunch guitars: Fortin Cali
Cleans: Neural DSP Plini
Piano: NI Una Corda Cotton
Drums: Steven Slate Drums 5

Jos sä annat, kyllä ne ottaa
eikä ohjaa suuntaan oikeaan.
Kun vähän kaikki on vähän liikaa,
etkä tiiä miten kaikki ratkaistaan
Kaikki tärkeä pimeään hukkuu,
jos et katso lainkaan tulevaan.
Liikaa taakkaa, ei sinun harteet
oo tarkoitettu kestämään.
Pakkaa laukut, vain kaikkein rakkain.
Et tuu muuta tänne jälkees jättämään.
Et palaa koskaan, sä löydät muuta.
Mä lupaan sulle jotain parempaa.
//
Via dolorosa
tähdet ja taivas johdattaa
jos kuljet eksymättä
joku sua siellä odottaa
Halki nietoksen ja jään.
Et liekin lämpöön jää lepäämään.
On matka sulla pitkä.
Tiedät, että joskus vielä kotiin löydät.
//
Tämä matka ei ole helppo,
etkä suuntaa aina oikeaan.
Kyllä se siitä parempaan muuttuu,
kunhan maltat vielä hetken odottaa.

Distraction:
If you let them, they will take it and not steer you in the right way. When everything is a bit too much and you don't know how to solve everything.
Everything that is important is lost in the dark, if you can't keep your sight on the future.
Your shoulders are not built for this amount of burden.
Pack your belongins, only the stuff you love the most.
That's everything you will leave behind.
You are not coming back.
//
Via dolorosa,
the starts and sky will guide you
if you won't get lost
something will be waiting there for you
Through the snowdrift.
Don't stay and rest by the flame.
The journey is long,
but I know you will find your way home.
//
I promise, there is something better waiting for you.
This is not a easy road, and you will not always have the right bearing. It will become better if you are willing to wait.

Dude, this sounds incredible. If you hadn't mentioned it was in 7/8 I wouldn't have noticed, seemlessly done. I love how it is in another language and I can just focus on the emotion that is coming across. Guitars sound ace, nice one.

Seems that the struggle was worth it, the lyrics are great. Beautiful even. You have a distinct writing style, which I absolutely love and with this one you really hit the napakymppi. Possible 4/4 spotted at 2:50.

Wow, the wall of sound! Very dense feeling.

This has to be the best pop/rock song I've heard here this year so far. Listened to this in the morning while going to work and now again when I'm returning home. So emotional. The composition, lyrics, playing and vocals, this is a perfect package right here. Hattu päästä.

En aluksi huomannut erikoista tahtilajia lainkaan, kun oli niin luontevasti soljuvaa. Kauniita melodioita tyylikkäästi laulettuna ja soitettuna.

Yes, another 7/8 song I listen today. This signature is so weird. I still have problems counting along and you just made it sound so consistent. I life my hat for another awesome song with a professional production. The chord progression is so epic and it's a treat to listen to Finish rock. I don't hear you struggling with vocals here. Hope your cold is gone!
Were you the guy with the Kent influence? Yes, I know they're Swedish, but this song reminds me a lot of them.

Great 7/8 and it drives the song with power. Like Peter Gabriel you add some 4/4 and I guess it was for the vocals. Strong sound and strong song. I am also working on some 7/8 but only for the chorus where I put them as triplets, way more theatrical though.
Peace

This is such a professional sounding song. I thoroughly enjoyed my listen!! I like the 7/8 time signature vibe with the guitars. I followed along with the Finnish lyrics which piqued my interest. Promise, something better indeed! Well done!

HELL yes. This is exactly what I needed today. Reminds me of my teenage years.
