Feb 2022 muzak
@paulh1237 - I wrote a the words and stuck some chords down and realised this was not the normal way for me to right I song. Therefore I made @vomvorton finish it. I'm pleased!
@vomvorton - Paul reached out to me, confused and upset. He'd written a song with only one time signature and no riffs in it and he didn't know what it was. I helped as best I could, by throwing synths at it, singing a backing vocal and Doing Rad Mix Tricks. I just hope he's going to be okay.
Your words, they warp, contort, deform
Your voice, once warm, loses depth and colour
I see new shapes at every turn
and each time it gets harder to remember
The signals weren't crossed, they were tampered with.
You'll find me at crossed purposes.
And if this is calculated -
you'll find me with the abacus.
Your silence stalks me like a skulking shadow
Your absence, the coldness of this airs embrace
I see this space, how it grows between us and
sometimes I get lost in the darkness of this place.
There's an error at reciever.
And I'm sorry, I'm trying - but I know it's not enough.

This is too good to be Muzak! Can everyone stop with that tag :p Really enjoyed this, it suits my current mood so I listened twice. Love the vocal delivery, the echoing backing vox, the intriguing lyrics, the everything :)
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Really nice droney mood to this that's always on the verge of bursting into pop, but would probably sneer at the idea, and at me for suggesting it. Some great images in the lyrics. Good stuff, you two. And the liner notes made me chuckle.
@loveonamixtape Feb 2022
Oooooh when those deep, rolling drums come in *chef's kiss* Really like the vibe on this, and the lyrics are fantastic -- love all the assonance and alliteration.
@zecoop Feb 2022
I'm totally getting into the build and the way the guitar chords propel the song forward, in its own time. No flying guitar solos needed or special tracks when a song flows so well. Well done with the lyrical phrasing and choices.... I agree that alliteration is awesome, especially in the context of the melody. Good one!
@balancelost Feb 2022
If you're gonna keep things simple this is the way to do it. Those chords are great and made even greater by the lyrics and the way you sing them. Love what Vom did with it. First time I listened to this I thought you sang "I'm sorry I'm flying" oops.
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
This kind of worn out shoegaze is entirely my jam. I like how you're having fun with alliteration in the lyrics. Works well!
@johnfahres Feb 2022
I always enjoy a good shoegazer vibe. Nice team up, y'all! Short, to the point, and a solid song overall.
@shortdan Feb 2022
Nice work guys! I found the lyrics really intriguing. The instrumentation is very cool - those drums sound like 'metal' drums stylistically to my ears at times? Guitar work cool throughout. Good stuff!
@emory Feb 2022
This is quite a bop! The relaxed vocals work really well for the song.
@jorh Feb 2022
Some fantastic metaphors and similes in the lyric - I loved the first 2 lines especially with the three descriptors after ‘the voice / the words’ opening. The distorted guitar and synths works really well with the lyrical content too.
@midwayfair Feb 2022
I really like how long the song waits before bringing in the band, it’s a kind of unusual choice with such heavy guitars. She me fun and unusual words too (I’m almost positive I’ve never seen the word abacus in a song before).
@rayboneor Feb 2022
The best kind of muzak. I'm hoping to hear this at a supermarket sometime soon. There's something very meditative here with those great guitars and pounding drums. The bass is great, both fat and melodic at times. That last full verse packs in the poetry, for sure. I really like the way you vary the cadence and rhythm of the vocal, with torrents of syllables here and trickles there.
@seemanski Feb 2022
That was slick, getting placebo vibes from this track. Loved the accompanying synths and your vocals work really well together, I have a feeling Vom decided to hold back and provide just backing vocals which I felt worked in your favour.
@owl Feb 2022
Lol @vomvorton’s liner notes!
Excellent collab! I really like the lyrics and the rhythm/phrasing of the last line in each verse felt unexpected in a great way to me. The combination of the crunchy guitars, textured synths and smooth bass is pretty magical. (I wish I had a better vocabulary for talking about synth noises! I thought about that adjective for a while and couldn’t come up with anything better…)
@sorby69 Feb 2022
Paul & Vom - wonderful collab - and a great/relatable backstory. Paul - it's so frustrating when we've only got some of the tools / skills to realise a songwriting dream or idea - but reaching out for help is such a brave & honourable thing to do - I'm really glad you did. I really like this song.
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
Great groove to this track and the synthy noises are awesome. The BVs really lift it too. I think this would've been a good song but, via the medium of collaboration, it's become great. Take a bow, both of you!
@adforperu Feb 2022
The panned crunchy vs ultra distorted guitars works really nicely. When the beat comes, definitely getting a second-wave emo kinda feel. This is rather dark, good skills chaps! "The signals weren't crossed, they were tampered with." is a great line, Paul.
@lanasolyluna Feb 2022
Awesome collab. Not sure what the original sounded like, but this sounds amazing with the two of you! I really like the lyrics, just enough abstraction and concreteness to keep one intrigued and yet somehow relate. Nice work, folks.
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
Praying for ya Paul. You will recover. The riff gods are always in your corner. Solid collab y’all this came out dope.
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
This is great. The fuzzy guitar just burbling on one side with the shabbier guitar on the other side - quite a laid back feel with some chill drums. But when the harmonies come in on the 'error at..' bit, it just lifts. Such a pretty sad melody to that part, with the 'I know it's not enough' refrain. Just lovely.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Yep guys it may well be a collab about of a need but how wonderful mr Vom came up trumps .REally love the power behind this. The vocals work perfectly with the lyrics and big up for the synth magic
@skylermf Feb 2022
*signals! oops
@skylermf Feb 2022
I love the guitar part here, really memorable. Also huge fan of the “digó and weren’t crossed they were tampered with” line
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
Really like that hard panned guitar, sounds really cool. This is a great collab, can really hear your individual styles in it but it’s own thing entirely, a supergroup that shall henceforth be known as VOMMY PAUL. “ The signals weren't crossed, they were tampered with.” is a great line - it’s all great. Congrats!
@theodamus Feb 2022
Those final few lines “ There's an error at reciever/And I'm sorry, I'm trying” is beautiful and sad in an understated way - same with “you’ll find me at cross purposes”. I like the call and response between voice and guitar, answering and mirroring each other is a great device in a song about not being able to get through. Nice collab!!!
