An old friend of mine is going through some awful times at the moment. This is for her.
I know this life's not how you planned it
I know the present times are hard
We play our roles as fate demands it
Though we might wish for better cards
Stand up, and take a look around
Things will seem better off the ground
Understand that this is not where you will always be
There will come a day when you and I are flying free
This hardship means that you will savour
all the goodness that you knew before
And when the tide turns in your favour
You will appreciate it more
For now, just be content to fake it
Life will eventually come round
And on the day you finally make it
Your feet won't even touch the ground

Oh, was this the one for Roz? I hope she's doing well and is fully on the mend. I think the 80's vibes are fully appropriate since they were some very formative times for both of you, right? Like that bit at 2:10 where the drums just go!

Nicely hopeful piece and that guitar solo is fantastic!
@aeye Feb 2022
Holy guitar solo batman. That thing SOARS. That was great.
@ineloquentsd Feb 2022
A lovely message, and clearly sincerely offered. I really particularly enjoyed the guitar solo.

I really like how the bassline pushes it along with the funky groove and that guitar tone is perfect for the sound you're going for. Those harmonised lines towards the end are delicious!

Sounds a little like Felt! ( @santadharma says)

Oh yeah this definitely deserves the 80s-vibe tag. I like the positive lyrics throughout, and the "just be content to fake it; life will eventually come round" is great advice TBH. Works for me!
@tseaver Feb 2022
Good write! The anthemic lift for the chorus is perfect.
@blindkiwi Feb 2022
Uplifting lyrics with a dark delivery and then it feels like it opens up in the outro.. flying free indeed. Nice work again HFO!

Great pep talk for the times! Thank you! That chord progression of the chorus is so reminiscent of something - I think Elvis' band played something similar during his Vegas shows when he was introducing the group. Love it!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Very good lyric, as someone said to me yesterday if a song like this helps one person what a wonderful thing! Also! Just as a song its really nice, very catchy! I really like this on all levels mate!

I like the funky start and how that repeated bass riff pins everything down and drives it forward at the same time. Pretty cool to let the lead solo sit in a big space of its own and not have to compete with a lot of chords. Love the twin leads in the outro> very 80s indeed. This is a hopeful, upbeat message and your complete sincerity comes across. I’m sure it will encourage your friend.

I like the tune structure a lot, especially in the prechorus/chorus. And of course the playing and arranging is top-notch.
