Glad I switched to headphones to fully experience the split channels. Most of the crew are sleeping and the space ship is on auto pilot, quiet for all but the whirring of the machinery. We're receiving strange signals from an unusual frequency. The screen flickers... a face appears briefly in the static... it is not a human face.
The modular part was recorded dawless, direct from a mixer (and some delay and reverb) into a Tascam DP008EX digital multi-tracker. The original piece was 10 minutes, so after dropping into my DAW, I split the track into two 5 minute pieces, and split them left and right. The drone was the only thing I added and I'm not even sure what sound it was - something in my Microsampler which I looped and added a bunch of reverb to. The talking is actually samples from a radio music module that is then fed into Braids, so the samples are coming through one of the modulations of the digital oscillator, and even affecting it, via Braids Meta setting, where it will shuffle multiple different oscillators. Damn, maybe I should have used my old rotary phone on this one!
Other patch notes: Modules used, Plonk, Tempi, Maths, a couple of LFOs, Braids, Pittsburgh Delay, Turing Machine (2 of them), Radio Music, I forget what else. Sorry I didn't take a picture and I ripped all the cables out already.
Transmissions from outer space? Or are they calling from inside my own head? Any patch notes? :). The "talking" part sounds like maybe a contact microphone? Sounds completely DAWless, if so, good on ya, I'm still not experienced enough to record straight to stereo. Modem-like sounds at 3:40 (remember those kids?). Definitely getting a nostalgic telephone vibe here, like that Twilight Zone where the lady finally finds out where the calls are coming from. Unsettling in a good way!
