Feb 2022 folk singer songwriter bass melodica ukulele ss020522m superskirmish
Thanks to @andrea for the superskirmish on SS020522M. The theme was opposite pairs of words and I chose "Above and Below".
Spent a while past the time to get some version of it for a listen. Thanks for taking the time to take the idea in!
red lights flash
and I have a moment
Look for what’s above
and below
turn the radio off
to hear the approaching train
here in the middle of the street
All's still and slow on Main.
towering clouds in the sky
Water finding their wells
sip a water bottle
to the noon church bells
The birds flying home
the ants digging under
look at flowers with the butterfly
In the distance there is thunder
admiring the planes trail
below there are fault lines
how could it fly stable?
our town’s on a stack of old mines
I crack open the window
to the let the air come in
feel the power of the rails
let the intensity begin
the pressure changes
a barometer takes a measure
stick out your hand to measure the wind
the direction to take next, at your own pleasure
start the car
and get ready to drive the flat road
no matter where no matter when
you’ll end up closer
the gate lifts its arms above
rooted in concrete below
and I’m onward
I’m moving to one way
or another.

Nice use of the "above and below" opposite pairs promot in these lyrics - "The birds flying home/the ants digging under" and "admiring the planes trail/below there are fault lines".

I love this idea. Taking time to notice the details all around while waiting for the train to pass. That is ingenious! The images are lovely, and I enjoyed the accompanying music.

It’s a picture of a meditation but is itself more of a story, jumping from one action to the next. I’m glad you took the time with the music. It really does set the scene in this form.

I always love the way you stitch a thousand little images into an emotional moment. There's a freedom that I feel in this song. The freedom of rolling aimlessly over the patchwork of the industrialized American landscape, which is something I've taken great pleasure in in my life.

This is gorgeous! I could hear the crossing bell and the train rumbling by. The lyrics and music work together so well to create a surreal and beautiful moment.

The low growl sonics and other tones makes it feel like a scene where everything moves in slow motion. What would seem like a moment to most drivers at a crossing comes across as extended time, everything above and below stretches out and is filled with some unexpected significance.
