Stuck on another one I wanted to write, I went to Titular again and saw what is the title here. It got me thinking...
THESE ARE THE PIECES
I found a letter
From an old friend from school
It was a sweet hello
A handwritten jewel
A homemade bear
Was also in the box
It was two decades old
But still tickled my thoughts
[ch]
These are the pieces
I love to find
Out of sight
But never out of my mind
Pieces of me
Like branches on a tree
They nourish the soul
Like water to a seed
An old pair of jeans
Had some lived-in tears
Could probably fetch
A few dollars somewhere
The stiff, musty smell
Makes me realize that time
Has passed with a wink
And I smile in kind
[ch]
These are the pieces
I love to find
Out of sight
But never out of my mind
Pieces of me
Like branches on a tree
They nourish the soul
Like water to a seed
[br]
Stories I thought I had forgotten
Flood my mind and show no signs of stopping
Like jet contrails that cross the sky
Those years made their tracks without saying goodbye
Repeat ch

This is a great lyric. Such wonderful use of tangible items as placeholders for memories and emotions.

I can totally relate. I keep old cards and letters and they brighten my mood. Finding old letters is so heart-warming. Beautifully written lyrics, Kristi.

I really enjoy the snapshots here. I also particularly like the bridge, the idea that these things are still part of us...they can't say goodbye because the past in still here, in a sense. This made me think of why, every 5-7 years or so, I go back and look at old photos. Good write.
