Skirmish: Opposite pairs
Let's face it, I'm busy.
Happy to see you, Please go away
©Mark Greenberg February 5, 2022
You’ve got your schedule, I’ve got mine
You need something to do, I need some time
We could be together but just not today
Happy to see you, won’t you please go away
Got to use the bathroom, there’s a knocking on the door
Someone wants to know if I’ve accepted their Lord
The timer is beeping, my dog wants to play
Happy to see you, won’t you please go away
Happy to see you, won’t you please go away
You know that I miss you, but just not today
I have a one-hour skirmish but still don’t know what to play
Happy to see you, now please go away
Last week I asked you over to help me move some dirt
You come in hundred-dollar shoes and a white silk shirt
You bring a bottle of wine you got too much to say
Happy to see you, now won’t you please go away.

I'm digging it. The guitar sounds nice and slinky, and the overall blues-rock vibe I get reminds me of the completely different song "Let yourself out the way you came in" you wrote. Maybe that would be the song after this one, like, "Hey, I said PLEASE the first time, right?" :D
@williamjames Feb 2022
"happy to see you, won´t you please go away" what a great line! Great lyrics about being swamped!
@roblincoln Feb 2022
I can relate. Perfect musical fit to excellent, funny, and very true lyrics.

Where was I when this skirmish happened?? It's got some coffee grinds in it! hehe "I have a one-hour skirmish but still don’t know what to play, happy to see you, now please go away..." LOL LMFAO!!! "You bring a bottle of wine you got too much to say, happy to see you, now won’t you please go away. Nice, very, very nice!!! Love it!!! This is awesome!
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
Love when you write songs like this! I hope if there is some kind of FAWM Over, that you will do this song, I love it, funny, relatable, great vocal, fun!
@raspberry33 Feb 2022
Curmudgeon Central! Very Dylanesque. Perfect slap-back echo on the guitar. And the vocals sell it, for sure. This is a keeper.
@the3queens Feb 2022
Chuckling! We're all singing this tune right now. The hook is killer, how can you not stop and listen? I'm not a Mets fan so I'm trying to figure out what @ductapeguy is talking about!
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
I love the mets-fawm references. That hook line is killer. You nailed a classic swamp-rack theme and groove, This one is definitely worth revisiting in March to polish it.
@pfoo Feb 2022
That's a great take on the skirmish prompt! Funny examples and excuses - especially including the skirmish! I can see you up on the FAWMstock stage (or standing behind your seat at the table) sharing your new song with us :)
@mikeb Feb 2022
That's a polite way to say F Off!
Fun skirmish song!
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
Ah, the old smiling and closing the door trick. Nicely worded with a good series of examples that I imagine almost anyone could relate to. The melody line plays up the contrast with the pop-up and pop-down notes, a nice effect.

This put a big smile on my face here in Catalunya.
It reminded me a lot of Coleridge's experience.
Do you know the story of the poet and the man from Porlock?
Coleridge had an opium fuelled inspiration and wrote the first few verses of what was going to be an Epic Poem called "Xanadu".
In full flight of creation, there was knock on the door and he answered it to a man from Porlock who proceeded to bend his ear for the next hour till Samuel could get rid of him. Returning to the poem he realised he had forgotten all the details of the vision that inspired it and we are left wit the 54 lines he did write.
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
Love the hook. Very cute writing. I used to have a button that said, if I promise to miss you will you go away…. Awesome skirmish!
@pattie Feb 2022
Excellent! Inspiring me to pull down my electric guitar.... I really like your guitar lick on this and your lyrics crack me up! :)
@misterdemp Feb 2022
Love the wit and humor on this one!
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Fun take on the prompt. Very visual and relatable. It was wonderful to listen to your song
@hurongrand Feb 2022
I share the same sentiments when people show up unannounced at my door. Really fun listen, nice work!
@andrea Feb 2022
I love how you worked the skirmish into the lyrics. The hook is awesome, and I love the way you sing it. The first verse feels like trying to do FAWM and people keep bugging me. They want clean laundry, dinner too- happy to oblige, but not real soon-lol. Great skirmish!
@vivalarayna Feb 2022
Lol, I was dying at the second verse. This is such a clever use of the prompt. Glad you found this is the hour and didn't tell it to go away.
@odilongreen Feb 2022
I really like the slink and groove of the spare guitar! And the lyrics are so clever and fun; as something of an introvert, I can particularly relate to that first verse. Just a song to really sink into and *feel.* :)
@tjeff Feb 2022
A catchy and clever relationship song, good take on the prompt. Love the hook.
@chickenjail Feb 2022
I can relate to all of this except for turning down free wine, lol. This was a fun listen, and I can imagine a fun music video in the vein of "Who Can It Be Now?"
@sunfire Feb 2022
Great take on the prompt. Good sounding song. Enjoyed the listen.
@tunecat Feb 2022
Really enjoying this listen what an appealing song!!
@sheilerk Feb 2022
This is great!!! I see you figured out what to play just fine, stellar in fact!
