In the middle of a stack of online meetings. Between sessions, see the prompt, quick and dirty 10 minute write and record.
Mildly autobiographical.
When I was young
I always wanted to be a musician
I always wanted to have people
Listen to my songs
When I was young
I didn't know how to get there
I didn't know how to make music
Didn't write new songs
Midlife crisis hits at 40
Time to start a brand new phase
Drop the worries of what people think of me
Get the old guitar back out
Practice stringing chords together
From what's in my head start to make melodies
Better late than never
Now I'm a songwriter
No commercial aspirations
But I'm happy as can be
Better late than never
Now people can hear me sing
No commercial success designs
But I'm content with me

I can surely relate. What a fun progression! <3

That’s such a funky chord change, I dig it! Is it a seventh or something? Sometimes those are hard to sing properly but you found it - also when you get your guitar “oouuut” your Maple Leaf shines brightly - such a fun song- wow SONG ELEVEN ALREADY! I can’t say I’m surprised, you don’t mess around. Keep rocking and rolling but mostly rocking!

Something about this vocal is reminding me of another artist and I can't think of who-it's driving me crazy.
@acousticmaddie Feb 2022
Nice flow and great storytelling. Like the melody and the guitar is great.
@gorban Feb 2022
Hah! Absolute can relate to the lyrics
@jwhanberry Feb 2022
The point of your story is clear. It's good to reach your dreams whenever and however it happens. Good drivin'. You became a musician. Contentment is a good thing. Good skirmish tale.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
hey this is a personal song that conveys that sentiment so effectively!
the lyrics bring you on the journey of longing and revisiting and hopefulness.
yes what delightfully hopeful song
@sunfire Feb 2022
I think this is relatable, except for the mid life crisis. lol
Enjoyed your tune. Good to see and hear you here Alex.
@sheilerk Feb 2022
Ten minutes? That’s crazy good! I love the sentiments behind this. What fawmer wouldnt?! That guitar is sounding great!! Bet it’s happy to be back under your fingertips.
@pattie Feb 2022
Love the chord changes just before the chorus. Totally relate to your lyrics as probably most of us do! :) Great job!
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
The structure of this is ace - love the way you build to the Midlife crisis, with some stop-start elements to the lyric delivery, then the way there's none of those later, as you've come into your own. Great ending too, nice coda!
@unkept Feb 2022
Really love the story (naturally) and you did a great job with the skirmish, nice job Alex.
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
I completely agree. And the flow!
@markg Feb 2022
Nicest thing about growing older: less stress about what others thinks, less stress about being perfect (or as close as possible) Good that you achieved your goal, making music that others listen to and comment on.
@aprilm Feb 2022
Nice write in 10 minutes!
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Oh, there won't be a single Fawmer over 40 who doesn't empathise with this one (and quite a few of the younger ones too).
@pearlmanhattan Feb 2022
Great Skirmish! Hopeful lyrics about making your childhood dreams come true! Commercial success is overrated anyway! Thank you!
@cindyrella Feb 2022
I am sure happy you got that guitar back out! Amazing you did this in 10 minutes!
