Feb 2022 superskirmish ss020522l tenor guitar fingerpicking
I wrote the lyrics and was confused by the structure. By my standards it was all over the place, especially the rhyme scheme and the syllable count. But I picked up my trusty Harley Benton Tenor Guitar and it generously gifted me the melody and a way to cram it all in.
Didn't sing the last "I suppose" on the last line... But hey.... :-)
Your apology accepted I know you took your time
The pain you caused had grown
Like a poisoned creeping vine
There were times back then
When I thought I'd lose my tether
But hey, I suppose, better late than never.
They say sticks and stones may break my bones
But words can never hurt
But yours had left me feeling empty and inert
I've never believed that words
Are just so much blether
But hey, I suppose, better late than never
Better late than never
Pain can't last forever
Did you think you were clever?
Hey, better late than never!
Now you stand before me
Like we've always been good friends
Offering this gift, trying to make amends
Do you expect me to feel grateful
For the endeavour
Well, hey, I suppose better late than never

Wow, you sure did manage to cram all those words in there and wrestle them to the ground. I like how the chorus contrasts with fewer syllables. The guitar is incredible. And your calm delivery makes it easy to trust that you've got it all under control,

Very nice song and take on the famous saying. I like your voice and playing. Everything works really nicely in your song.

Oh I love the tenor guitar! Lucky you to have one!! Beautiful fingerpicking. Nice rhyming going on throughout. Lovely melody - and how you sing the title line really stands out in a very good way. Really nice song!

This illustrates the other levels of tension in people really trying to smooth over a point of tension. The resolution can never be as clean as we try to make it look.
@adnama17 Feb 2022
I actually like the contrast of the steady guitar with the busy busy lyrics. It's like you're excited to tell everyone about it! Dig the chord that starts the repeated line. :)
@keithcuts Feb 2022
that call back line style works so well for this piece
the sentiment on the topic you convey so well
so deep and well written for an hour
looking forward to more

I think this hangs right together. No structural problems. Your story is clear and told with economy and a few interesting rhymes! BTW that's a fine sounding guitar. Good skirmish.
@markg Feb 2022
Your voice is so strong on this recording
I like the attitude of the lyrics: Apology accepted, sort of.
@pattie Feb 2022
Oh my LOVE LOVE LOVE the guitar! You have a really nice voice. Like the chord changes in the chorus especially. Great job!!
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
Oh @berni1954 I do love your voice, really suits the higher sounding guitar. There's something about the rhythm of the phrase "better late than never" that you exploit beautifully here. Nice ending!
@metalfoot Feb 2022
I love it when the music comes of its own accord. If you hadn't told me that is how you wrote this I wouldn't have guessed. Well done!
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Wonderful finger-picking and lovely poetic insightful lyric and use of language. Love how you deliver the hook. Great job on the skirmish!
@sheilerk Feb 2022
That really was a great gift from your guitar, but I suspect the real gift is yours, for finding the perfect melody at the perfect time. This flows along so nicely, with interesting rhymes and a hard hitting point wrapped up in that great melody.
@aprilm Feb 2022
I really like the cadence - and the melody is great with the beautiful finger picking on the guitar
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Wow, this is great! I love that guitar and melody!
@pearlmanhattan Feb 2022
I enjoy the structure and the flow - it's got such a laid back feel that really punctuates the sentiment of "better late than never" The tenor guitar sounds nice! Great skirmsh! Thank you!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
I really like the rhyming and the tenor guitar is a really good match for your voice and the song. This is one of my favorites of yours. Good skirmish!
