Feb 2022 indie acoustic singer-songwriter indie-pop
a song about aging and unhealthy habits, I guess. I know 30 isn't old! but I think anyone 30 or older can probably relate to the feeling that it is, or was
I think there's probably a better song in here than what I've ended up with - I feel that I could have worked more on the structure and written more lyrics, and I'm not that happy with the additional instrumentation beyond the drums, guitar and bass. but it took long enough just to get this!
i usually go for much more affected vocals, you may have noticed! i like how it sounds, i can cover up bad lyrics/performance, and it's much easier to mix. I'm glad I tried to go clean on this track but I guess I don't have enough experience doing it, they don't quite sit right for me. nevertheless, I think everything here works ok
i'm trying to drink less
if less is more then i'm sure i will succeed at being hopeless
if only i could stop this
week on week
the recommended level of exercise is wildly optimistic
i know i'll never make it
they say what goes around comes around
and now it's coming back
it's coming back for me
now i'm ancient
if 50's the new 40 why does 30 feel like 40
did i miss it?
everything?
they say what goes around comes around
and now it's coming back
it's coming back for me
it's coming back for me
how the hell did my life go this way?
i eat an apple every day
i eat an apple every day

Oooh, very nice, I’m getting reminded of my favorite Boo Radleys album Giant Steps here. Love that bubbly lead synth. Whats not to like about the instrumentation? We’re all our own worst critics, but as a listener that was an enjoyable experience.
@frostin Feb 2022
great melody with funky chords (which I like very much!)
@gammafied Feb 2022
Getting a real 90's feel from the intro. The subject matter / lyrics hits close to home. Ooof. I like that synth work on the intro. It feels really personal, but epic at the same time (must be the orchestral strings)

Great melody here, and don’t we all feel this way about trying to do things that are good for our bodies? The apple line is a good concrete image to represent the idea in the song. The acoustic guitar + synth is a good combo!

Wow! What a great vocal melody! "i eat an apple every day" is a genius hook line.
Lyrically, the only element where I kind of got distracted out of the song and wondered "should that mean something specific, or is it a gesture, or is it a placeholder?" was the "it" that's coming back for you.
You're good at making sure there's nouns (like the apple). I wonder if some words 'you' said were what went out, and are coming back around for 'you'. Like how would it feel if you tried, "those words I said, well what goes around comes around, and now they're coming back; they're coming back for me"
Just a thought. But yes, everything's definitely working here!

Had a lovely nostalgic quality to it, very relatable especially that ‘ the recommended level of exercise is wildly optimistic’ line haha! Loving the synth work in the 2nd half of the song too, adds some nice texture and drive
@ddd Feb 2022
This was a nice discovery. Lyrics are funny and relatable but the strong melody/production gives it real weight.
@leah0k Feb 2022
The lyrics, the instrument feel, the tune, the energy/confusion at the end - like - what's even happening - all of it. I like it so much. "If 50's the new 40 why does 30 feel like 40" Haha I'm FEEEEEELING THIS SONG. I don't know if you're saying you used auto tune, or you didn't - but the Vox sound cool, whatever you went with!
@shortdan Feb 2022
Particularly digging the vocal melody in this one. I'd say the different approach to the vocal treatment worked well! Great lyrics. Particularly keen on this like,'if 50's the new 40 why does 30 feel like 40'. Enjoyed this one :)

Yeah, never heard your voice so up front, it sounds great! Just a very splendid indie-pop song here, I don't really want or need to pick it apart. Good job! I love that 'i eat an apple every day' pay off, and that end synth solo (?) is really quite inventive.
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
With the acoustic and synth combo this reminds me a little of Wish-era The Cure. Really love your vocals on this and the way you’ve treated them. As someone in his early 30s I feel this - starting to notice a few greys

Oh the irony. Oh the truth. Oh the reality you have shared with this song. I love your arrangement (that melody take me back to a good place in the mid 90s). I'm diggin' this!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
This came out dope. Very dreamy and relatable. Guitar really works well with the ethereal synthy bits.
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
The delivery of the lyrics is really pleasing - got a great rhythm to it. Musically really nice - that acoustic guitar drives it along and the synth that comes in at the end is sort of surprising (in a good way) and provides a nice, elevated feel to the end.
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
this has a similar cleverness, charm, and tendency toward wild melodic tangents tha i love in belle and sebastiane
@cheslain Feb 2022
Interesting chord progression and catchy melodies with a great driving rhythm. The lyrics are highly relatable, I know the feeling.
@vomvorton Feb 2022
I love it when you get really fuzzed up, but also really enjoyed this look at a Cleaner Circle! The vocal melody and rhythm is really immediate and engaging, especially on "goes around comes around", and the title line really made me smile.
