It's my first wife's birthday today.
She was my high school sweetheart.
We're approaching our 40th wedding anniversary.
Life didn't turn out as expected... but whose does?
I just wish I could do MORE to show her how much I love and appreciate and respect her. Hopefully I'll find something cool that she'd like on my weekly Costco trip... but mere things will never be enough to show how much I love her.
BTW, she's not only my first wife... she's my only wife, and the only woman I'd ever want to live with (well, other than our daughters, of course - I miss the ones who moved away).
P.S. She liked it. :)
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
Cinnamon simmers on the stove top
Cherry wood crackles in the hearth
Piano on the stereo - George Winston
Gentle rain falls softly in the dark
It’s almost perfect, too good to be true, but -
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
Polka dots on a bright red backdrop
Flown across the pond to make you smile
Freshly ground beans in the decanter
The poor man’s way to start the day in style
It’s almost perfect, too good to be true, but -
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
Summer days that seemed to last forever
Underneath a white tent pitched out back
Family and friends gathered together
So timeless we forget all that we lack
Hand in hand - we planned it all as children
Heart to heart - still figuring it out
Step by step - we fly into our future
All along I never had a doubt
It’s almost perfect, too good to be true, but -
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
It’s never enough, never enough,
never enough for you
It’s never enough, never enough...
You deserve much more.

40 yrs is truly amazing! Congratulations! Vivid imagery. And I have to commend you for writing a very musical sounding refrain. The funny thing is you reference George Winston but my mind read George Benson so I was imagining early George Benson jazz guitar licks on the “Never enoughs”. Probly not what you had in mind but it works!
