The writing prompt was dust. This is pretty far removed from my usual style. Recording a demo first thing in the morning is also something I have never done before.
I imagine myself as a speck of dust
At the mercy of natural forces
My only power is the power of trust
I change direction like changing horses
And if I’m over here and I want to be there
To be over there where you are
I tell myself I’m as free as the air
Then dust on Mars doesn’t seem too far
My only plan is the plan of the soul
My destiny is decided
There are not many moments when I’m in control
I only go where I’m guided
And if I’m over here and I want to be there
To be over there where you are
I tell myself I’m as free as the air
Then dust on Mars doesn’t seem too far

Nice track. The hook line is so good. Dust on mars os such a visual metaphor and evoking that it doesn't seem far just really works for me.

What a cool perspective for a song -- and the fact that the narrator is doing the imagining, and therefore is actually present in the song not as the dust. And the difference in V2 -- destiny decided -- that's different from V1 freedom. I like the "oh"s too!

As a sci fi fan this song scratches an itch of mine, and it's a lovely metaphor for distance and missing each other.

What imaginative, evocative lyrics! I like the picking pattern you’re using for the melancholy guitar accompaniment, too. Great skirmishing - thanks for getting up early and participating!

That first line jumped right out at me. And the last two lines of the chorus. The meloncholy progression is cool too. :)

Nice. Reminds of a Duran Duran kind of ballad.

These lyrics are so thought provoking - I really relate to “ I imagine myself as a speck of dust at the mercy of natural forces”. Nice use of the prompt!
