Feb 2022 ss020522i skirmish superskirmish emergency lyrics-only
My first thought was the “emergency” of feeling life passing us by as we age.
V1:
Time is short
Yet I sit
Paralyzed
Nothing fits
Dreams inside
So many plans
But fear makes me
A grain of sand
CH:
It’s getting Close to the End
And I haven’t done nearly everything
That I’ve wanted to
Close to the End
A silent voice when I really want to sing
And learn to be true
V2:
Exotic trips
To distant places
A few new friends
With smiling faces
Paint a picture
Write a book
Help a neighbor
Learn to cook
Repeat chorus
Bridge:
You may never do it all, not in a lifetime
Take it easy on yourself
Choose to enjoy each moment, it’s a state of mind
Repeat chorus

My first thought was "man this is going to be dark" but it turned out to be kind of.. positive? Or maybe it's both. Makes you think. I can relate to both the negative and the positive parts of the song.

The bridge! I am so glad it peppers the song with some lightness and comfort. Really enjoyed this, would love to hear how it might sound - hit me up if you end up recording a demo.

The sentiment rings very true. Weirrdly was just listening to a video by Richard Grannon talking about (ranting a bit actually) how we are letting life go by whilst getting hooked into things that don't matter. All the best

I like the bridge gives the listener a respite from the need to do things in order to feel fulfilled. At least that's my take, maybe not what's intended. I like the sparse verse and I really find it interesting that you use "close to the end" as an incentive to do something worthwhile. There's a quite a bit packed into this lyric, but maybe that's just me feeling my age.

Hope you or a collaborator gives this life through song.
As I fast approach my 68th, I can really identify with this one. But I have also led an interesting life, so maybe I shouldn't identify too much :-)
